Because the tax breaks and subsidies don't allow them to do business, they allow them to make more profit..a standard of performance which the shareholders expect them to beat next quarter. No matter how much money you make or what your margin is the shareholder always expects it to be better next time.

I think that's really cool. I agree with HP it needs something to improve the look, however I also think that the edit HP put together is too desaturated out and it doesn't need the grain he added.

I do think you need to get rid of the blue fog as HP has done in his edit. The original concept is more grey in the textures but I think you should shoot for an even whiter look than you have.

    I like the diffuse reflections.

    I like the modeling.

Obviously it is very different than portal, while there is the "the place is a laboratory" theme + "put box on button to open round door" both of those have been done many times before, even if portal was the first to acknowledge that its a box on a button. Blocking a laser has also been done before portal2. It's similar to portal in that it is self-acknowledging "this is how game mechanics work" but at their core all games are about putting keys in locks, even if the key is a bullet and the lock is a head.

Looks like it will be fun!

I think people are worried that if this really is true, then all their skills they've spent years developing will just fly out the window and they will be obsolete, and so they get all angry about it. Billboards used to be hand painted and when ad companies started screen printing them alot of sign painters lost their jobs.

Yay for crytek! I was really dissappointed when I heard crysis 2 wouldn't have sdk and now I am really joyous that it is out! Epic and now Crytek have set an excellent precedent that all future engine makers will have to adhere to to compete.

I remember seeing a video with a producer from BF3 specifically stating they didn't have any plans to license Frostbite. But yeah, a Frostbite SDK would be sweet. It's the best looking engine out there imo, BC2 looks fantastic.

I think they are going to license it considering they paid a bunch of money to have the necklaces at GDC say "FROSTBITE" on them and there was an insert in the totes going on about how awesome it is

I would suggest not making each corner of the cp have the same cover, mirror it, but not four way, so that the player can get information from the corners and so that they can do different things depending on which way they are facing and which way the enemy is approaching

    Testing yet?

    Lots of good photos there!

The politicians say "we are changing nasa's mission" and get rid of the shuttle, they say "we will replace it with rockets"...a step backwards. Then the next guy comes along and says "we change the mission again" Politicians make short term decisions in the name of long term missions and nasa can't keep up. The replacement vehicle was supposed to be ready already, that was the old justification, but of course it didn't happen. Everyone forgot. And then there is nasa's chief...a blowhard who kotows to washington. It is so sad that the ONLY pure, competent, non-corrupt part of our government keeps getting screwed. They say space is a low priority "what is there to do there?" but then they spend billions on the ATF which just overreaches it's authority. They spend billions on the Air Force which buys planes it never uses...these other government agencies just throw away money, NASA is the ONLY agency that has EVER accomplished it's mission, the only one that gets results every..single..day, the ONLY one that is very very competent. Hundreds of manned missions, hundreds of sattelites, new technologies, new knowledge...Maybe we don't NEED space exploration, but damnit, they are the only ones actually living up to their responsibilities.

Where are the inflatable space habitats? Where are the non-zero-g vehicles? Where is the moon base? Space shuttle was canceled to make way for other projects, those projects never came, so why cancel? They just keep lowering and lowering the expectations.

I wish I had gone to see a shuttle launch and now I never can

there were only two puzzles using the cloning and that it was heavy focused on combat, but that's just because I thought the map was focused on cloning...I don't think the map was focused on cloning!

I liked how you go backwards through the map and then also at the end see the destruction, I really liked it in fact. Reusing spaces for different purposes is awesome.

I think you had very good control over what the player does/experiences. For example, when walking down a hallway I hit a healthkit right when I needed it, also when crawling through the crawlspace I saw the dead guy in the machine when the music picked up, also there was the nook to hide in when fighting the roof guys. I didn't miss out on any 'moments' or 'opportunities.'

Combat wise, the stair battle seemed excessive, four guys ran out of a single door all in a line while I was above them. Maybe it could have been 1-2 guys and the rest when you got to the bottom of the stair. Also I think you missed an opportunity to have a battle in the courtyard after fighting the roof guys. That was a really cool area layout/architecture wise and you could have done some combat or a puzzle there.

Overall: more puzzles, and possibly you could have had a puzzle-combat part where you use the cloning to kill the enemies.

    It was quite fun.

  • XBox360 games running on Win8?

    • Mr. Happy
    • July 18, 2011 at 12:04 PM

The idea is that you can run a VM of any previous windows machine in win8; theres a win7 vm, a winxp vm, a win 98 vm (maybe even everyone's favorite nostalgia inducer, 3.1?)

I don't think it uses a vm for win8 native programs nor for the 'tiles'

I don't think it uses user level vm's

    Of course it's all rumour...

So I guess windows 8 is basically a big collection of virtual machines right? (well, more than that obviously but still..) so I wonder if it is running a 360 vm???

At any rate thats pretty awesome.

http://scr.im/happlez add me onto there if you want to but dont if you dont want to

I don't see why people are so upset about the tos. if you translate it from legalese to english it says "if you upload a picture to google then google can resize it and put it on a webpage" it gives them broader discretion than that yes, but if they make their tos too NARROW then they can get sued everytime they change the css rules on the page, so its better to go a little broad (and of course it lets them use your shit in their ads, which you can make your own decision on) it doesnt give them the rights to the content, it grants them a license to use the content, which is what you want them to do in the first place.
