Wow, that's a bit intense.

i didnt hear of this question before but i would take a piece of paper and make a square with one of the corners. like 2 lines painting and 2 lines of paper border.
think different
Yes, that was one way. You can also make 4 boxes by drawing crossing lines that extend to the edges of the paper, and 3 boxes by drawing two parallel lines.
The "what is your favorite game" one was asked as well.
At one place I did the multiple stages thing, but by the end, it was pretty much the same questions.

I tried it again, and it works fine now. Looking pretty good so far

I agree with the other comments. It's a shame that you can barely see the house in the first shot. Everything is rather dark, it hides the work you put into it. The lighting is also quite bland. I realize it is overcast, but even overcast skies give off a large amount of light. The glass ceilinged room would benefit a lot from better lighting.
Other than that, it's looking quite good.
Hurray for gy!be

I was mostly asked to just go more in depth into things I had written on my resume. Things like "What sort of things did you learn at school", "What did you do working at such and such place", and questions about my reel. They wanted to know what tools I used, what I had experience doing, etc. I got one that really stumped me, how to draw a square using two lines... After being shown one way I managed to come up with a way of doing it that the interviewer hadn't seen before, so that was cool.
Then they wanted me to ask questions from them, that was the tough bit. I just sort of asked what their work flow was like, and other random things.
My best advice is to just take it easy and don't be too formal. For me it mostly just ended up being a chat about what I was all about.
I had 3 interviews, and 3 job offers, so I think I do ok in interviews

Some good advice I got from a friend was that "Your reel shows them that you are right for the job, the interview is to show that you aren't wrong for it." Just don't do anything crazy and you should be alright.

Good luck!

I'd be ok with that, I'm moving this weekend, but I'll have lots of time next week.

Thanks Zete.
I got a job at Grin, as an env. artist.

Hmm, when I try loading it up, it gives me the "level unlit, turning on fullbright message"
It does look interesting though.

Yes, I've certainly never said it was perfect
The layout of it is certainly the weakest part.It has certainly filled it's use for me though, the rent money was running out, I needed a job, and this got me one. Onward and upward
I'll certainly keep all this stuff in mind for my next project. -
Zacker: The reason I chose to add some red and blue was to spice things up a bit. Although I think I may have chosen the wrong shade of blue...
Bic: The point of the custom assets was more to show that I could make them than to actually expand on HL2's models. The original plan was to add more to the level, with the heavy machines in another room, and this being more of a little office/small workshop. I may eventually get around to adding some more to it.
Adam: I agree about the noisy comment, I think I got a bit carried away in some spots. I think what's throwing you off on the scale is the large amount of distortion that happens in Source near the edges of the frame. Looking at the windows now though, I think a different setup for the bars might be in order, it does look a bit off.
Everyone else: Thanks!
MapCore seems to be quite active in replying to threads compared to some other forums. -
This is a project that I made for my portfolio. Everything in here is a custom asset. I started working on it in November last year, and finished it around the end of January. It's for the Source engine, using HDR. I had originally planned to make an entire map, but as it was taking so long, I decided to stick to just two rooms and polish those as best I could. This piece got me several job offers, and one of them I took, my first job in the games industry

How are those towers going to be connected JeanPaul? Or will each person get their own tower and shoot from there?

I'm from the middle of nowhere, Canada. Ask me in a month or so, and it will be Sweden

Wow! Some amazing stuff here, it's surprising how much you can fit in a 1024 cube. I'm going to give this a go, although I'm moving on Saturday, so I'm not sure how much I'll get finished.
