    nice!

i would love to see another iteration with much more precisely controlled lines and curvature. a lot of the lines and planes work against the face of the man cave building in strange ways, which is at odds with the really sharp and clean theme.

pretty much everything about how to work with hammer/source has been etched into the walls of the internet for years now. if you have an issue, trial and error (complemented by searching) is faster than waiting for replies on forums, and you learn more about how things work, which will help with other questions down the line.

competitive play wasn't on my radar when i made this 7 years ago. it was designed for a specific scenario...12v12 no awps/autos and was hugely successful in that niche for 5 great years on a cs:s server i ran.

i don't run that gaming community any more, nor do i play much cs, so perhaps its time has passed.

that being said, i'll definitely do some more graphical passes on it to improve legibility, put it on the workshop, and see what happens. but i'm not really committed to reworking the formula, geometry-wise, unless by some miracle, people on the workshop eat it up and, by consensus, demand change.

thanks for taking the time to play and write

i'll post some screenshots when i have some time, but i wanted to tell the story about the map and where i am with it first.

this was originally a map for source, released in 2007. i ran it on a server for years and years and it got tons of playtime. that being said, i never released it beyond that server, and as such, i realize it's never properly been vetted for mass appeal.

it was the first map i ever did any devoted custom assets for, and admittedly, the colors were pretty saturated at times, and equally noisy at others. when it came to taking another pass at this for cs:go, my primary solution for that (which i thought would be a big timesaver) was to go [heavy handed] on the color correction.

    lol.

well, i kind of knew this was a flawed strategy going in, so i scheduled this playtest as a way to jolt me in some direction. the feedback today is on its way to doing just that.

if you have specifc complaints about visibility, let me have them here.

i don't really have time to work on the geometry (i shouldn't even be working on this in the first place ), but if you have some feedback on it, i'd love to read it.

thanks for playing today, and thanks for the harsh words in response to my harsh treatment of your eyes. i needed it.

    here's a link for one of today's maps. de_disruption.

it's a big file (67mb compressed) so you might want to download it here.

The lighting is an ongoing tweak and the big reason why i want to test it next week. I understand the flat comment for shots 1 and 3 but not necessarily for 2 and 4, though you've motivated me to play with the colors a bit more in all of them. I'll look into what i can do to improve 1 and 3, otherwise.

constant lighting is on 0 in all lights (default is quadratic, i think?). other than that, i might be misunderstanding.

looking at the shots again, there is indeed no sign of specularity. i think that's on me how i took the shots. it's definitely there, and for me, it's almost too much!

    thanks for the comments guys.

I think it's too much TD for me, plus the lead designer sounds way too pretentious. Probably gonna pass on this.

i don't get it. what's he pretending to be?

he's straightforward about the mechanics without adding any layers of nonsense.

Looks interesting if it's persistent, but I ain't got no time for that!

i decided not to use it, which is why I posted it here, but i have been pretty careful about how I use the likeness, as far as I can tell.

Often, at least in the U.S., if a work contains a likeness that is "transformative" (meaning it's been taken to the level of caricature, or the image has more to do with artistic intent than it has to do with the person, himself), it's protected. Also, it can be ascertained from the original photo that there was no expectation of privacy when the original photo was snapped, since it appears to have been taken at some sort of conference (with microphones, and free water and stuff)?

Seriously, though, I've been around this place for like eight years, and I have no idea who HURG is.

this is a shot from the map i scheduled for testing on the 15th.

it's a recently renovated port of a source map that is set in a recently renovated metro station.
