really fucking disappointed with the game mechanics. the cover system blows, any directional key sway and you remove yourself from instantly cover and die in seconds. scripted bullet time events happen and take ammo from your gun, so if you haven't reloaded you'll fail them automatically. the enemies are completely fucking obnoxious, falling to the ground after HEAD SHOTS or body shots, only to rise again seconds later like fucking zombies. i unloaded an entire rifle mag into this one guy's head WHILE HE WAS ON THE GROUND and moved on thinking he was dead, seconds later i die from him shooting me at point blank range. checkpoints are utter bullshit and too often require replays through major parts of areas. the idiotic idea that you can redeem yourself if you kill your attacker as long as you have at least 1 painkiller, except sometimes max may fall in a different direction so that the angle won't let you shoot your attacker, and there's no possibility to reload, AND there is no possibility to just skip it and die faster. painkillers are too rare, it's like finding legendary items in diablo 3. hah, just kidding, it's not that bad, but it's fucking close. sometimes for no reason you lose your weapons after cinematics. sometimes the screen effects blur or glare out enemies so that you effectively can't see them (may be deliberate, s'ok if it is, fucking immersion and all that). puzzles can be very fucking hard to follow, as can the general level/map flow since there's no real direction for the player.

story is semi decent, nothing spectacular, i had expected better honestly. quotes are sometimes cliche to the point of cringing. on the definitive plus side, i have learned a lot of cultural stuff about brazil.

so, 10 minutes into the game and i already managed to break it by finding a section that you can pretty legally get to, but which has no collision.

also, pressing escape while playing the game crashes it. the joy of pc gaming...

Wait a second, you're slamming Heavy Rain without having played it?

It's the only game I've played where

the story goes on all the way to the end, even if all the player characters die

. That on its own is an impressive feat.

if you read below i clarified myself. also i did play it, i just didn't complete it. also feel free to tell me quick time events are completely guided

Isn't the path system just a presentation thing? Surely you could always go back and try another, like in C1 and C2?

yeah but why not make them intertwine so that you could switch paths between? or have just one path but let it be accessible differently so that every piece of the path has a stealth section and a combat section (kind of like deus ex does)

What do you mean by guided towards certain goals? Are you not guided towards limited goals in pretty much every game? Plus if you think of Heavy Rain as an adventure game — a genre traditionally as linear as it gets — is it still so bad?

I really enjoyed Heavy Rain and even its predecessor Fahrenheit, because while it clearly had some faults (I still can't believe some decisions with the control scheme) it delivered an incredible atmosphere, a compelling story I genuinely got addicted to, and characters I felt invested in. That alone is more than many games manage nowadays.

maybe i phrased myself wrong. sure there is almost always guidance, but let's say in a world like crysis or even crysis 2 there's much less obvious guidance than in heavy rain. players generally don't like being shown that they are guided, but like to be guided subtlely.

i don't being guided towards certain goals like that. i don't know about heavy rain's story that much, but in this story it would definitely feel out of place.

looks cool, though i'm not sure about the path system. but i guess it's an improvement on the linearity of crysis 2

girl sounds way too grown up in comparison to what she looks like, both in terms of voice and in terms of dialogue but otherwise it looks pretty amazing, though i wonder why they weren't interested in finding out why those people were there in the first place.

um i enjoyed it (not having seen neither alien nor aliens). so i understand there is a lot of bullshit in the cohesion department that i'm unaware of, and that's basically not doing anything for me either way.

what annoyed me was fififiifiddleleyfieldfi whatever the fuck his name was and company were such obvious fucking idiots. "hey let's go back ALONE through this HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT that could potentially EASILY kill us". no real scientists would ever take that chance, and that really ruins one aspect of the movie for me. it would have been much more convincing also if they sent in PROBES first, then lost communication with the probes during the storm, and AFTERWARDS found that the probes were malfunctioning or some shit, sending crew out to patch them up. because THAT'S WHAT SCIENTISTS DO; they NEVER send humans in first, and they ALWAYS think of everything beforehand (INCLUDING checking atmosphere levels etc). in general it seems a lot of things in the film could have been averted if the character just weren't complete dumbasses and used common sense. but yeah apart from that and the RUNNING IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHEN THERE'S A NARROW CIRCULAR OBJECT FOLLOWING YOU scene, it was pretty enjoyable.

please hollywood, don't make scientists out to be dumbasses, they're potentially saving your ass every day by averting various of kinds of bullshit, so don't give them that.

i think the problem is diablo 3 overshadowed it, which could cause any decent title to get sidelined due to the fanatical fanboyism that people display towards blizzard
