i guess it depends on what you do and how much you enjoy doing what you do. for me i usually stay later doing more because i enjoy it when i don't have other appointments. i think if you're at the point where you think it becomes a grind then maybe you're not entirely doing what you really want to do.

3ds probably sells more for kids than for anyone else, i don't think this has the market potential for kids as much as the 3ds

i finished far cry 3. i want to stab the guy who thought holding down buttons are better than just tapping them. the same guy who also thought that trying something else while holding down a button/performing an action should cancel said action. one of the few games where i actually enjoyed the shooting more than the stealth, some great weapon feels. bad ending seemed forced, good ending was cool but needed more. i think for most of the game it would have played better from a third person perspective. in many of the radio towers i kept falling down, and having a person speak while in first person mode was weird, especially after reading about "myself". whatever, maybe first person games that talk are the new shit. whatever. stealth could also be improved, but whatever really, they made it a challenge which again made it interesting. and if it failed i could always fall back on ENJOYABLE COMBAT. i can't stress how good combat feels in this game, literally no combat fatigue all game. shooters should be modeled on design (they aren't, rick).

i was ready to stay on the island after pretty much half of the game. then the phone calls from dennis ruined it and made me wanna leave. i don't get why they had to do it like that, as if staying on the island wouldn't be bad enough in itself. it's the same shit with the staying on the island ending. just pointless.

Last night i dreamt that I was at Valve playing Half-Life 3. Most of my dream consisted of me just playing and having so much fun with it. However, It turned into a nightmare when i realized that the game was so good that it had reached the pinnacle of game design forever. Everything after it would be so much worse, so there would be no reason to make games anymore. I started crying ...then my phone alarm woke me up...

as for irl; i just played through max payne 3 which was pretty good, but the story and production values was what carried it the entire way.

a lot of people praise spec ops for having the best feels this year, but honestly i think hotline miami took that one step further. it had everything i look for in a game: gripping story with depth, and unique gameplay that made me think without leaving me too fatigued. honorable mention goes to x-com for being excellent in terms of progression and gameplay, but too frustrating/unguided at times.

lindehof sounds like the biggest douchebag out there. from all of these i can only infer that he ruined the movie intentionally because he wants to be (and is) pretentious.

Does Damon Lindelof come off as pretentious? Sure, but at least he admits it.

so if a murderer admits he murders people, does it mean it's okay?

it's not so much went over people head as much as the approach it took just wasn't feasible. i didn't get the oh shit moments because i was feeling to frustrated to feel the game. i guess they didn't account for that because apparently mechanic fatigue is something that is still not fully understood or whatever. and that's just one part of it. i'm with JP on this that the choices are not made to make the player feel involved as a protagonist, but more as an observer.

another thing that kind of bothered me is that the people who made this most likely never served in a war or know how it is. so comes the problem of overdramatization. while the story stays sober for the most part (an insane man going loose on an entire battalion (i looked it up, it's 1200 men. just about what you kill throughout the game)), but there are some things that i just doubt would happen in a real life war scenario.

they used a lot of subtleties, granted, and many went over people's head. i remember an "illusion" i think it near the WP thing where you see a tree with leaves looking like it's fresh, then, if you look at it once you pass it, it's wilted. there are some nice touches, but way too hard for the average joe to find or figure out.

finished it. i liked the story, but i'm a bit disappointed by how few choices i could make that would turn out bad. having the character issue the orders instead of giving me the choice removed the suspension of disbelief for me, which i guess is why i don't feel anything here. i'd really have appreciated having two options and both of them being bad instead.

playing it currently, i'm about 8 or 9 chapters in. story is very interesting, i like how you actually getting involved in big shit in a coherent manner. gunplay is really tiresome though, getting some combat fatigue rivaled only by halo and killzone
