I get you. However there's also a limit to how anonymous it will get if we start publicizing locations. That being said, location could be converted into a value multiplier that would be different for each country. In that respect you'd get fairly accurate conversions to local wages between countries. Sort of like the swatch internet time of currency...

I was thinking - how about we do an anonymous analysis for the core on how much each of us earn? The Gamasutra one hasn't been active since 2012, I reckon it's about time we add something to the site that will be useful as a resource for developers.

I think most of our excessive tax goes to corrupt politicians and stuff like renaming the town hall plaza to the rainbow plaza. Right now the political seat has draped itself in a law that shrouds them from public insight, which makes it difficult to know for sure. But I digress, this is about wages, not politics.

You can't just expect people to have a good attitude towards someone who earns more than them in the same position, especially if they have been there for a shorter time or if they in another way think it's unjust. Perceived injustice without rationalization will lead to bitterness almost regardless of how "pure" a person is - it is so ingrained in our nature. I don't think blaming the company is a solution either, but asking them for a rationalization definitely is. Perhaps the solution is rooted in that employers should be given a rationalization for each employee's salary when they first employ said employee. That way at least people know what they are getting into.

But of course this isn't in the company's best interest, as I'm sure they want to save and cut as much money as possible by paying people less - even if it's small amounts.

In other news, this has been a very interesting thread and discussion. We should have more of these kinds of debates rather than the contrived threads of personal struggles or posting about our new material gains (although I am guilty of the latter).

At least with our tax our education becomes free, in addition to healthcare services etc etc.

As for the wage discussion, it's hard for me to be anything but neutral. I see both sides of the problem - you shove your wage in people's face, the workplace is going to be hell. But on the other hand, you want the information to be available. Gamasutra's idea of an average salary is perhaps the best way of doing this, but I'd argue it needs to be expanded so that one can check it for each country, for each individual profession, and for each company. That way you won't turn bitter towards fellow employees.

It is getting harder and harder not to get a Wii U

To be honest, it's the only console that has blown my mind this generation so far lol

Considering the other consoles are where the WiiU was a year ago it's not that surprising

There's a whole chapter to be said about presentation and representation. Don't post your first game, or your first level. Work until you get better, ask for feedback while it's a work in progress and then release. Nobody wants to play anyone's first level or game unless there's considerable effort and thought behind it. It certainly doesn't seem like it with this game.

I don't think so, but maybe you should push them a bit. If you got as far as negotiating wages, say that you're getting so and so where you work now and maybe they'll change their minds. This of course has no bearing on e.g. indie games, where funds are nonexistent.

I always hated regular keyboards because they keys aren't properly spaced. Especially if you panic (e.g. in a multiplayer game) you run a high risk of not exactly hitting the right keys. That risk is reduced drastically with chiclet keys. I can still use regular keyboards, but I vastly prefer chiclets as they make life so much easier.

It was for my Cintiq, which has a limited number of buttons on its interface. I did a "hack" where I made some of the buttons act as two different buttons to accomodate for this (i.e. the make brush smaller button also calls the brush tool afterwards) and remade other shortcuts to fit. The amount of stuff you can put on is pretty good when you're smart about how you set your configs

Generally cool stuff, although I would probably consider putting some actual gameplay footage in there instead of the trailer. The trailer isn't your work, and even if it's a game you worked on, it will at most only show your work marginally. Gameplay in the different spaces on the other hand will show off everything you have done, especially taken into consideration that you're the only level designer on the team.

But they have the same mechanics - the massing together etc. The only difference is that a group of 4 is destroyed by itself whereas in puzzle fighter you have to use orbs...
