st0lve is the master of bullshit when it comes too close to the fallout franchise. he apparently also mastered the art of predicting how a game will be before production has even begun. this guy is amazing. rly.

it's true, rick has the most beautiful voice ever. nice chest, although i'd probably serve the lighting and sparks/whatever as sprites rather than attach them to the model

    who dropped the bomb?

anyway, game sounds moderately interesting; it would be better if it was something original instead of x meets y, but i love diablo and mad max... so, how bad can it get?

back in the day when mapping for the hl1 engine was 'in', i used to create small singleplayer maps. these maps wouldnt have anything special in them really, maybe a small scripted sequence of a sci walking to a door and opening it, or the player having to get somewhere to make him do just that; usually accompanied with a small walk/climb/maze to get to said situation.

the thing back then was, that whenever i felt like putting something into shape, i'd replay these simple maps (no level interchange, manual changelevel; though the maps were continuations), and get just a little bit inspired as what to do and how to start a map. if you replay a large map or a chapter of some campaign in any game, it'll be too much building inspiration, but if you take a small map, nothing fancy, you'll get a kickstart on how to build stuff.

this also provides a perspective of how the player perceives the level. you'd be surprised how little the blocky parts mattered when the fun was there.

i've actually seen a mod recently employing a similar technique, where the maps and everything are blocky, but the gameplay/flow is so finely tuned it's still an amazing experience to play. this mod is called riot act, and it's on modDB. failing anything else, i suggest you at least play through that.

common typo, the keys are like right next to each other joking aside, the gfx thing sounds good. i didnt realize nvidia was so pressed to release new stuff already - maybe one should consider getting a 9800 GTS instead... (note the irony - nvidia reusing ati's old ranks)

you could have gotten that system for about 50% of the price if you had gotten all the parts seperately and assembled it yourself...

also keep in mind that a 500w psu with that system will only hold up for so long, so you might have to replace it in a year or 18 months. i'd have gone for a 650w to be on the safe side.

i think comparing SC to thief and hitman is a weird thing to do: the goals in those games differ from the ones in splinter cell, and while you do sneak around in all of them, it is not possible to really compare gameplay/style in them to each other.
