wow man, i really like those pictures. ill probably be using some of them as reference for future sketches.
first off, i am pretty tired of meaningless sequels; doom included. it offers nothing more to a story other than what has been seen before with better specular/normal maps. sure there will be the elements of pda's and other, but those should have been included in previous games too. it's definitely an overdone franchise with each game only offering minor changes to the next. kinda like super mario but then again not.
second, the only thing that really appeals to me in dead space is the story, which apparently, is also the most compelling element in the game. generally the concept of having any game where in the majority of it you have to aim with an analog stick really puts me off. i'm not saying i am hyped on the game, but from my standpoint it has a better chance of success than doom 4.
the contrast ratio is pretty bad on that tv. if i were you i'd go for at least 5000:1, which is half as good as a regular plasma screen. 20 watt speakers is alright if you dont plan to plug in some speaker system yourself. that being said, how much are you willing to spend on a tv? no doubt you could find a better tv for a lower price than that one probably.
personally i have a LG that works like a dream, 5000:1 contrast which is amazing, and 30 watt speakers that can go louder than i can withstand listening to without being noisy.

i've been longing for more maps, awesomely splendtastic!

Quote from ThrikI was going to point out that the money itself isn't as relevant as the purchasing power of that currency in its own country. As such you simply cannot look at numbers alone and compare them between countries — their economies are completely different. The most obvious example in the world right now is the ability for anyone to take a UK pound and immediately double its purchasing power by going to the US. That is, if I had enough money to buy GTA 4 in the UK, if I flew over to the US and took my money with me I would have enough to buy it twice. Yet that doesn't imply I'm more wealthy than my US counterparts — in the context of my own country I can't afford any more or less than they can.
But whatever the case, £10/hour isn't a bad wage at all in the UK. Two or three hours work gets you a game.
all true, and i never argued this. however i thought wages were higher in the UK. you guys have nearly the same VAT as denmark (22 UK vs 25 DK) and i presumed wages would reflect this better. i dont know how much you actually pay in income tax.
gas station clerks here do get paid around 100 kr/hour, which would be somewhere around £9-10; the minimum wage being around 75 or 85 kroners at least. all this at a high income tax (40%), given, but we also get the first ~40,000 kroner "free" before we start paying income tax.
...it makes me wonder, because whenever i am in the UK i dont notice a real difference in prices.
also, how much is a gas station clerk paid in the UK?
sorry for the bump..
i actually watched the movie yesterday, and i was positively impressed. the whole plot was masterfully done and with alot of action, the romantism was kept to a minimum, and you could actually tell that the guy had personality. excellent movie by all standards; like the trailers i wont spoil anything (or even tell you who the hell is the villain is), but i want you to know this...

Quote from JohnCThe bottom line is that almost all of these achievements are so ridiculously hard and circumstantial, and all to get three measely weapons? I can only imagine the kind of frustration people would have trying to be there for a one in a million moment these things ask for, try to earn them, then get killed or have some sniper way behind them screw it up.
i couldnt agree more. i actually made this point before and got yelled on by people who thought/still think that i am not allowed to have an opinion. games with achievements are increasingly feeling like work over fun, or that you have to do something in order to get the good stuff. i can see there being a point in the future where valve overpowers a specific achievable weapon that requires some wicked achievements, and everyone and their dog will be slaving to get said achievements in order to be up par with the rest.
why not just make the weapon selection available at the beginning and omit all this bullshit for people who dont want to participate in it? that way achievement whores could have it their way, and everyone normal could just play the god damn game.
Quote from ginger_lordThe pay is certainly the best part, when I started I was 16 and got £4.50 an hour
Must be close to £10 an hour when I go back this summer.
are you kidding me? people over here get £10 for working at a gas station..
unless you *cough* dont pay income tax *cough*
yeah i tried it today and the first server i got into, a guy just yelled, "hey, achievement_unlock_all unlocks all anchievements" -- it was a wonder the server didnt go down from the achievement spam.
