oh yes, wasteslandHL was pretty fucking sweet. i wish they'd work on singleplayer stuff too. poke646/minerva for singleplayer.

while you've done a good job at revamping the buildings, the emptiness is still extreme. why not make that square opening an arched opening? why not add some bins or trash or something that makes it look less artificial and more out of the real world? the last shot especially

looks pretty sweet insta, is it a mirrored layout?

If you're going for a standard LD position then I'd want to see how concentrated your gameplay designs are over what or how many toolsets you feel you're competent in. Candidates would learn fast inside the studio, surrounded by others who know the tech. If you've learned one already - you've shown you have the capacity to understand the technical aspects to creating your work.I'd rather see a small SP level done in Gears of War than seeing your resume stating that you know Unreal and Hammer/SE, but don't have a solid gameplay demo available.
i agree, semantics over syntax.

I don't. I just don't aggree that it's hard to show that you have an artistic sense if you work on old tech. I wasn't trying to get into the great engine debate
.i disagree. artistic skill can scale, so you can still do something brilliant within your limitations, but do something even better without those limitations.

That's an interesting observation. I wonder if it's the developers, the players, or a combination of both that drive these trends?
In some respects it makes sense, no different to trends or movements in art, fashion and music culture.
survival of the fittest: whatever style is more popular stays. if another one is tried, it's tried against its own survival. e.g. the modern style of mirror's edge might not prevail because people don't like it. over time, the prejudice of people seems to fade, the intial reaction is always the strongest.

i love how he double checks that he's the only player in the game.. i used to do that myself on regular cs maps because i thought i heard footsteps

Seems remarkably unexciting from what I've read about it. Not sure if I'd ever use it to be honest, preferring to just go straight into games/etc rather than dick around in a virtual world.
It's a bit crazy how long it's been in the pipeline. Perhaps because they realise it's just not that good? For a while I thought it'd become vapourware.
i guess they realized that they needed a counterpart to the NXE ... for whatever dumb reason in their minds.

Is it wrong when I find this whole thing 'hilarious'? I imagine it was CrazyMAC on the phone and then it just comes over me

haha, oh man.
on a more serious note, why the hell is barrington harvey getting the blame for this? eidos made the call in the first place...

Whoa, those sales are fucking grotesque if correct, its been out in the US for 2 weeks at this point. This is actually one of the few titles this year that I kinda hope would sell well, being that its actually trying some different things than most others.
people are too traditionalistic for this to happen i predict.

if i was into car tuning i'd give this one a "maybe"

In the end this is still an industry to create money, and well..corporations go long ways to make money, this is just one of them. Of course it's not honest but I think those of you who thought people were honest in this world need to start waking up. It's all about the big ole' $. Especially these days where the economy is going down the shitter.
it's not so much about being honest or not, it's more about when your reputation precedes you. once this has happened a couple of times, i am hoping for sales to fall on any titles from the same publisher. not because i don't support the industry; i do, but they still need to learn their lesson. i can't just sit back and let this happen and neither should you.

What he said. As stupid as it is, this is common business practice in the industry unfortunately. Especially with big corporations.
the joke's on them. if they want to be labeled as publishers who do everything to sell their games rather than making good games, let them. the more we get this out, the more we can show them that "good" business practices aren't that good when customers learn about them. this does in no way go over whatever work you do, but i feel it might damage the reputation of a given game as much as it does that of a publisher.
