so, following an idea i've had in my mind for a while, i went over to the lego website to see how much it would cost to get large sets of composite parts for 3d-design sketching fast in a real environment. while there, i noticed that they actually have this nifty 3d program where you can build virtual lego models and then get a price and package sent for them.

if it's in anyone's interest, the link's here:

i was amazed by how much functionality they actually put into this, and it's quite enjoyable to use.

basically the same thing happened to me. i just went ahead and jumped to a newer generation of mobos with ddr3

yeah there is alot of depth to this. what i think you might be looking for as principles is gestalt psychology as well (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestalt_psychology). it tells you how people see things, perhaps more so than any UI book will do. that being said, the sum is greater than its parts, so i recommend you take a look into a few decent UI books as well.

also, for sake of inspiration of familiarity, take a look at the GUIs of different OS. each OS has their own design principle in mind, and you can see how they consistently use it for the maximum usability.

consider picking a different color palette also, perhaps one with more contrasting colors (example purple vs yellow)

Don't get me wrong, I love Outlaws, but it just doesn't do it quite good enough as a wild west game tbh. I want GTA with horses, and lots of different landscape, lots of sidequests, interesting stuff to explore. In essence what Gun tried to do, but just with good production values and a world that feels big and real. Gun felt like big rooms with cliffs, which had doors connecting them.

i gotta say i agree somewhat here, i really liked the open spacing in gun. i think the biggest problem is that you can't really confine desert or badlands with anything but cliffs. gun did perhaps what was the closest we'll get to what you want from a western game, and i think they did it well. there was suspense and adventure in that game if you let the immersion grab you by the leg and pull you in. i still haven't completed it due to a crash and no autosave feature late in the game, which put me off from playing it. perhaps i should give it another go.

I wish TC didn't abuse his name for games that got nothing in common with why it became famous within games anyway. hell, even most of the new FPS games with his name suck balls ass and doesn't really give you the feel of how he writes.

for the most part it isn't him writing at all. tom clancy has people ghost writing in his name.

i would say that without the voice commands i wouldn't be interested either, but to me it actually makes the game fun somehow. if you got the headset, you at least owe it to yourself to try out the demo, if only to get some use out of the headset for now..

Battlefield 2142 was one of the first games I ever saw with Adverts in it. Didn't bother me so much really as the maps were big and the Ad's placed well enough not to annoy you.

i actually thought them cleverly placed; one of the very few games where it indeed was appropriate.

For my work experience I made a Systems and Design package in glorious Visual Basic in about 4 days, you basically populated a list of actions for a set of traffic lights to pass traffic in an efficient manner with no accidents, etc. A bit bare-bones but it worked. I later found out it was being successfully sold to schools for £100 a pop.

    what?! how?

blaming video games for murder/death/suicide is really getting old. why didn't the movie scene or books have this problem? cross books, i bet you could justify blaming the bible for a whole lot of killings... yet nobody seems to care anymore. :\

i don't think there's any reason for a game to go over knowledge already found within books or other media. for insightful games however, i do think there is a (perhaps important) future.

Damn, this game is really difficult, and i'm not the kind of player who get easily frustrated by difficulity, but woaw. It's really frustrating to die so easily and have to restart from the beggining, he could at least made some checkpoints (or give the possibility to have continues?) between the zones and i would be ok with it, because i feel i always do the same level :/.
