no i'm not comparing two companies, i'm comparing ways companies do things when theyre taken over/bought up/outsourced. i don't think i have seen a single successful overtaking of an ip from one studio to another (apart from COD, but those things are so disjointed i would be surprised if they could manage to screw that up).
Shiny managed to recreate Max Payne's gameplay to a tee with Enter the Matrix (though fucked it up with a buggy as hell game with horrible driving sections). MP3 will not be a Fallout 3.
Feel free to be as pessimistic as you want about the story, I'm right there with you, but gameplay (as a comparison to Fallout 3 would suggest) doesn't really have any merit, because Max is an easy concept. You run around in third person, you shoot stuff, you can use bullet time. Dead simple.
you're talking about them as if they were separate entities. they're not, not in the max payne games i remember. the design of the levels and the atmosphere were fitting to the general theme and story, and that was the part that made the games great. this is not just about implementing gameplay, this is about implementing it in an immersive world; the immersive world that remedy created for max payne. i can't remember who said it, but this is one of the cases where the whole is larger than the sum of its parts.
i think a lot of people here have a feeling in the gut that this might take a turn for the worse. if they make a great game, fine, all the better; but you at least don't get disappointed if its bad.

i like the overall impression of the photos. the industrial ones remind me of how tf2 would look in real life. the very last one could be a scene for a painting.

You're comparing Rockstar to Bethesda. I don't have a clue why, there's no precedent for Rockstar doing anything like what Bethesda did with Fallout 3. Third person shooter isn't some new untouched genre for them, and they were directly involved in the most recent game in the series.

You're the one comparing the actions of a developer to the actions of a publisher.
wait, what? last time i checked, developers had control over content and story, and usually the story is in place (or near it) at the pitch. in this case, rockstar themselves are developing this, which means that the story may be going in an entirely different direction in contrast to minor changes requested by the publisher. example: starting off fresh in a new city in contrast to how max' personality is.
also, why do you always post vague connections when starting a discussion? do you seek to undermine your own position or do you assume that everyone knows what exactly you point is? i'm saying this because it's starting to get annoying. wait no, that's not right. it is annoying.

please don't tell me they're wasting all this on a racing game...

You do realize Rockstar published Max Payne 2 as well, right? And they've made non-GTA style games, unlike Bethesda and Oblivion style games? Manhunt, Table Tennis, Max Payne, etc?
do you know the difference between publisher and developer? because, you know, remedy entertainment developed both games.
-
i might add that in the same way that bethesda made fallout 3 more like oblivion, there's a good chance that rockstar will skew the game more towards gta.
-
they don't pull a new halo or killzone every year either, but that doesn't mean the games are going to be good.

that's because the cater to different audiences.
No, not really, both are mature violent action games. They're not completely the same but in a venn diagram of the two there's a huge overlap.

you're making too much of an abstraction. we can also go further up and say they're both computer games. or that they're both games. or that they're both media. you get the point.
they do not share the same demographic. GTA was released earlier on the ps3/360. this was merely a rehash for those who don't have a console or would rather want it on a PC, which isn't a huge lot. i'm not going to bother with more arguments because i'm tired, but the demographic argument is enough to prove you wrong.

The modifications to the game engine include depth of field effects, as well as the addition of a supernatural realm, called The Veil. While in The Veil the player has access to certain special abilities, such as the power to slow down time, to get around obstacles that exist in the real world, or even to be able to defeat enemies that have an otherwise impenetrable shield.
oh my. i'm getting a flashback to condemned 2.

i was surprised at the graphics. it looks really really good for the ds, the style picked is perfect. i haven't played it a whole lot, so i'm wondering how big it is.
