Quote from SkjalgI think the whole point here, Sentura, is that it doesnt work if everyone thinks like you.If everyone suddenly turned vegan, we'd probably solve alot of the worlds problems, but like you said, it just aint gonna happen. But the point is that someones gotta start doing it, and the sheep can follow later.
that is a pretty big if, however. it's true that if everyone turned something, then the world's problems would be solved. but look at how many times throughout history that has happened. being the change you want the world to see is all fine and dandy, yet it doesn't help if you're a small minority of people. i wish that people would instead bide their time and wait for the time when they have a genuine chance of influence. myself, i'll wait until i can become a someone within the industry before i choose to spread whatever agenda or change i want.
you don't have to make numerous bugs though, you could settle for just making one progress breaking bug (like they did here).
Quote from SindwillerYeah btw those politicians are just all a bunch of comedians, liars and thieves who just want power; i don't see why i should care, let them just do whatever they want with the economy of the world and of my country.
i didn't say that, but my blood starts boiling whenever i watch anything that has to do with politics. at least they can't make a nuclear armageddon happen at this point, so ill be content with the situation until further notice.
You are content with the situation because you can live your life more or less peacefully and not in poverty ![]()
and you know what the best part about it is? i'm not ashamed.
all things aside, the world has been needing better politics and politicians for a long while. i'm just not going to fool myself into thinking that joining demonstrations or other political activities may provide respite from what's going on in the world. it's based on guilt towards those less fortunate, and i don't do it for the same reason i can't stand moral vegetarians: just because you don't eat meat doesn't mean that animals aren't going to be brutally slaughtered or kept in inhumane conditions.
it's the difference between seeing the vision and having the mission; if you really want to help the world become a better place, feel free to become a politician or other influential person. if you want animals treated better, sign up for animal protection services. boycotting something on a small scale or joining up a social movement will have little effect as those in charge will only think of you as an angry mob or crackpot. it just doesn't work.

i can't be bothered with my own country's politics, let alone those of other countries.
Quote from KungFuSquirrelOh, overlooked this when I replied earlier - it's not necessary. The CSG process also strips out all outside faces automatically. But, this is another one where it can still be helpful sometimes to improve readability of the level; it's a little more work and can get a little tedious sometimes, but it won't hurt anything.
exactly, although the csg process has been merged with the bsp (tree creation) process from source onwards. you may want to look here for additional knowledge about the data structure that is the bsp tree (every final node in the tree is a visLeaf).
woot! were you still in copenhagen i'd celebrate with you! congrats my man
i find it funny how you ask designers about engine programming questions. nevertheless, i can see little benefit from mitering corners unless they are crucial to your level architecture. the way that the bsp tree data structure handles the visibility data, there'd be no technical difference - bsp removes all outside of world faces, and each visleaf will still store the same amount of data for each inside world face.
well either way i won't go ahead and spoil it for myself with the demo. i'll take the game full on when it's out.
i thought this deserved its own thread. basically this game is one of the finest examples of a game springing out from a mod community.

it is currently in beta. anyone having beta access can add me as 'sentura'.

way to misunderstand what i am saying, buddy.
the easiest way to teach people something is by letting them see how it works in practice. ergo, you take some real life examples. say you have to create a texture or a poster or manipulate a few different photos; you could then pick out a few tools or techniques to do-over these examples, then hand people some exercises to try to work with it themselves.
Quote from BuddyYeah, like when you're broke you use clone stamp to clone your money.

i'd use real life problems as examples and solve them by using the various tools
unless it's made with the ground bones of alan turing, i can see no reason to shell out this much money for a computer. i'd much rather have 20 of those seabreachers...
so they're making us buy a new game to get all of this? ![]()
Quote from Pericolos0The problem is that what really happens is that everybody got taught a bit of everything but nobody got trained to be a professional. So many people graduating from game schools with no real skills, maybe one or two from their year find a job if they are lucky. It's good to learn the extra stuff to expand your horizon and maybe get interested in stuff you didn't care about before, but there should really be a focus on become an industry-ready professional in the end. Trained by other industry professionals. The lack of professionalism in my professors is one of the big reasons i quit college, it just felt their wasn't anything to learn from them. It was so frustrating being in classes with a teacher that was still learning the subject himself. No offence Zacker but I really wouldn't want to be taught engine programming by someone with no experience in it, it's one of those things that takes years of experience and knowing all the tricks and the pitfalls, the real valuable knowledge you need to give to your students.
well said.
the last paragraph especially; there are perspectives you can only get after you learn a specific number of things, which for most people happens to be after years of training. an example would be how to see the world in a logical fashion and being able to decipher anything into code, another being able to spot problems within an instant. these highly intuitive skills are what distinguishes a real expert from someone who has just read every book on programming.
i postulate that anything that isn't daoc reborn isn't worth playing in the mmo genre. perhaps with the exception of guild wars 2 when it comes out...
i wouldn't mind one of those, although i'll wait for a version that doesn't cause people to spontaneously vomit inside of it.
