Playing Blacklist for the first time and I can't believe how much bad design there is in this game. Some levels and sections are borderline unplayable.

One section has a timer where you have to wait for a minute and a half while something or other downloads (it's never clear what or why you have to wait). You have to return to pick that same thing up after it finishes. But there's no reason to stick around as the area is full of guards, especially when you can find a hiding spot below the area. So basically I'm hanging from a pipe for a minute and a half until the fucking download completes. Best thing is that the checkpoint is right before the timer starts, so you get to hug a pipe a lot, but not in the #420 blaze it way. But hey at least you can do other stuff while playing, such as ranting on an online forum about how fucking frustrating a game is.

Once it completes apparently the patrol routes change and there's a lot more guards than before. Because a tiny 6x14m space clearly needs a lot of enemies patrolling. Especially when its walls are made of glass. Which incidentally also means that any enemies outside can see you when you try to sneak back in to get the downloaded files. It gets better as the AI's random seed for patrols changes between checkpoint reload, so sometimes you get spotted places where you didn't get spotted in an earlier checkpoint because one dude decided that he should angle his head just the right amount to see you. I fucking wish I was kidding.

The best design in this game are the sidequest missions where you gather different intel. There's a lot of variety in paths and entrances and it's fun. Plus the areas are small enough that you don't need fucking checkpoints. Some bullshit enemy placement still prevails, but it's more manageable.

I know a few cool places but most of them are a little bit far away from the conference.. as in, near little italy/broadway.

    Anyone got suggestions?

I'll be in town for a few weeks before the conference as well, though I doubt most people are going to do something like that.

Watched Dark City, which is basically a spiritual prequel for the Matrix. Really interesting in a lot of ways, but man do I hate it when they introduce technical slang for something and then fail to explain it for half the movie. It's so pretentious. Story is also kind of weird, but hey it's still worth watching.

I'm up for meeting with the core, just trying to see if there's anyone else who's coming before making a big fuss about it.

HP, as long as you remember that the respect you give others is the respect you give back. It's also quite a blanket statement to say that all religions are horrible - most non-semitic religions are actually pretty ok. I mean, look at Buddhism. Nobody here is comparing extremism of any kind to people who are just of a faith. I'd urge you to read what kokoz said a page back, because it's a pretty important distinction to make between those people who kill for the religion and those who don't. For those who don't; you saying spirituality and them saying religion sounds to me very much like the same statements.

...Which ties into what I wanted to say to KT nicely: People need purpose, they need to know that their existence is meaningful in some way, because that's how the human mind works. Many people have based their purpose on their faith, either by converting or by growing up in a household of practice. This has given them a mental purpose, but it has also intertwined religion into their identity. So when discussing the topic of religion with them, defending their faith becomes paramount for them because it is an essential part of their identity - and breaking their identity is neither something that they want to do nor is it something anyone else can do for/against them. Knowledge in this case will likely just give them cognitive dissonance and make them ignore any rational statements.

Conclusion/TL;DR: My suggestion for a solution is then not to abolish all religion, because people would just make up new stuff to believe, but to let people be and be respectful towards them. Most people use faith in a way that doesn't affect others. Those that do are not really religiously motivated, but politically motivated (e.g. terrorists).

Because if it wasn't religion, it would be something else. It's the capacity for craziness that is the problem, not what type of crazy you get.

Eloquently put, though I'm certain this sort of segregation isn't happening in just France. It may be that tensions are greater because of the colonial past in France, but it's hardly the only country that practices blatant Islamophobia/xenophobia.

I'm pondering this problem, as it seemingly has been solved in the US - at least when counting places of mass migration and various cultures, like big cities. Why isn't the same behavior appropriated to big cities in Europe? It may not prevent terrorist groups entirely, but it would be a start if people stopped the passive hostility that has been going on towards fringe groups of society.

I don't care about religion, nor is this supposed to ignite a discussion into theology. Nowhere have I stated that religion should have control over people's lives. I was speaking about common courtesy and respect. Something that everyone should have towards each other, religion or not.

Showing respect to sect such as christianisme, islam, republic and those kind of tools of power to master people? R you insane or wutt?

So you're implying that everyone who practices a religion is a terrorist? What the fuck man.

The sad thing is that they don't. I've seen various forums on Facebook just get fired up and start mass producing drawings and sketches of Mohammad not knowing that they are not really hurting any terrorist, just the Muslim viewers of those pages. Yes, you have the freedom to draw the guy, but use some common sense and think about who you are hurting by doing what you're doing. Show some respect instead of just posting flamebaits.

Not to discount what happened in France either, but at the same time there's been an attack by another terrorist organization that has destroyed an entire town, killing 2000 people.

Obviously a terrible tragedy. People should not lose their lives based on any creative outlet.

But people are also acting out of proportion to what has happened. I think the issue is deeper than free speech and cartoons, like written here:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews…were-wrong.html

People are getting so agitated, they're blaming regular Muslims and offending them purely out of the context that these terrorists are bad. i don't think that's a good way of handling this issue, as it only serves to destabilize relations between populations in a single country (like the article says). I hope that we can all realize that this was a terrorist attack, not a Muslim attack. Don't blame everyone for the mistakes of a few.
