i find HoN more rewarding (I get a better feeling when I grab a kill there).

nothing beats a good kill as valkyrie or pharaoh, when you land a perfect arrow or ulti and beat them down.

    also: i'm playing this game

I wouldn't go to a dentist school with root canals. It's something that only experienced and specialized dentists (so called endodontists) are good at.Sure they have to learn it somewhere but please not in my mouth. I only have one set of teeth.

I had two root canals done at normal dentists. One of them turned out to be too short so there is nerve remaining in the tooth and it must be redone earlier or later. The other one the dentist misjudged the position of the root completely. So he pierced my tooth on the side by accident and was messing around deep inside my gums with his needles instead of the tooth.

naturally it's all supervised. i've been done for a good long while now, and i haven't had any problems since. i guess you could consider that to have some sort of quality.

Blizzard games usually have this effect on me, at the end of them I'm usually super happy that they have multiplayer so I can play them endlessly.World of Warcraft had this effect on me for the first year, after that I mostly played it because I was good at it and it is really rewarding when you are.

do you separate this from the feeling of "game addiction"?

That's amazing ! Sonic 3 and knuckles is probably the best sonic game ever.

absolutely not, the best was the first one. fuck all the loops and multiple paths that don't offer any worthwhile experience. the best thing about sonic was the jump puzzles and the timing, not the goddamn speed. i replayed the first sonic not long ago, and it's still an excellent game.

i get it in pretty much every game where the stories isn't "SPACE NAZI FROM HELL ARE HERE TO TAKE OVER YOUR LAND, FIGHT THEM". it seems especially strong with games that have narrative that connects on different levels (after playing aquaria or mass effect1/2 i couldn't really press myself to play anything for a good few weeks afterwards). the x-files did the same to me when i finished watching them (actually before i finished, the last two seasons without mulder was like removing the soul from the series).

the funny thing is, it's never a good feeling. despite the games being excellent and awesome, it just seems like a depressive after burner.

Massively multiplayer online role-playing games take players into fantasy realms, distant galaxies, and now, the Bible. German developer FiAA GmbH announced today The Bible Online, an MMORPG and RTS designed to let gamers "reenact and witness" Christian scriptures. You'll notice this article is not categorized as "Humor."The Bible Online: Chapter 1 -- The Heroes is based on the book of Genesis, and will put players in the role of Abraham and his descendants as they set out from their home in Haran to do God's bidding and take control of Canaan.

i don't think i can take this seriously. politics and religion don't mix, i wonder if games and religion do...

":1b15swn2]But most games do not support it, at least not when playing MP. (afaik)

which is sad really, it might make the experience much more enjoyable for some people (me). but then again you'll have the problem of balancing a joypad versus kb/m setups, which in any competitive community/game would cause a huge ruckus.

The truth is actually the opposite of what you said, the probability of two HD failing simultaneously is really, really low. I've never seen it happen in my experience, neither did my co-workers.

Power surges are really not one of the main causes of HD failure, it's really unusual for it to happen, and you should be using a UPS with surge suppression anyway to protect your other components. The biggest cause of HD failures is in fact dust. If particles of dust get inside the HD drive you will start to get lots of bad sector warnings, and eventually the read/write head will stop working making the HD useless.

And again external hard-drives are not as reliable as you might think, most of the enclosures don't keep dust away from the inside, if you ever open a external hd you will find lots of dust in there, and the fact that people carry them everywhere causes much more physical damage than having a internal HD properly secured inside your computer case. The circuit boards inside external HD also break very easily, but that's because most companies use really cheap components and bad manufacturing processes to build them. Like i said before I've 3 of them sitting in my desk at the moment which are completely dead.

I'm sorry to insist on this but you really shouldn't be misinforming people about proper ways to secure their data. RAID1 arrays are a standard in any system in which data protection is important these days, along with having a (usually) off-site backup server (this only applies to companies), and doing regular backups to an external support to quick fixes.

well if that isn't a technological bitch slap then i don't know what is

So I take it that young people acknowledge that this social atmosphere exists whereas older people see it as more of a fact of life? I guess what I'm asking is are the younger people actively trying to modify this aspect of Scandinavian culture or are they comfortable with the kind of community it creates? The only thing I can compare it to in the US is conservativism, the way my father or grandfather might go off on a "back in my day" rant. What country do you live in sentura? Why were you raised differently? Why weren't your parents ostracized for teaching different values? Do many of your peers feel the same way? Does "getting somewhere where people can't get to you" mean anything besides a disparity in wealth?

i live in denmark. i was born here, but i was brought up with more polish than danish culture (due to my parents). they were ostracized by most people for just being foreigners or being too vocal. they told me stories of when they got here, how hard it was and all that yadda, which i personally regard as half truths with at least a layer of exaggeration. when i was younger i often overheard examples such as people assuming my mother to be a cleaning lady because of her accent (when really she's a psychologist).

i won't speak for my peers because honestly, i don't know what they think of this. the people i know that are here abroad mostly just hang around in their own group rather than hang with particularly danish people. even those who've been here for a few years seem only interested in either people from their own country or people who aren't from denmark. i might take the question up and see what they say, i always love a bit of anthropology.

what i meant by "getting somewhere" was anything that could be a cause for envy - including wealth and status. when i last spoke to my parents (they live in a provincial town outside of Copenhagen), they were rebuilding their house. even then, they told me that they wanted the repairs on the front of the house (facing the road) and roof done first, while the neighbors were still around to witness it, while the back of the house and interior would be done while the neighbors were on vacation. the implication here was that the neighbors wouldn't notice that the rebuilding effort was much greater than they might initially have thought, for them not to think that my parents are as wealthy as they are.
