Quote from deceiver
Ugh, I'm getting that right now with a client for one of my freelance gigs. He doesn't really understand the process of building a model and keeps asking for changes upon changes upon changes. Sometimes those changes affect another part of the model, then I end up having to changed that, or he asks for a change, then changes his mind, etc. So frustrating. Never worked with someone as picky or difficult as that =0.
if he keeps doing this, ditch him. seriously, if he doesn't know what he wants, he's not worth working for.

This is a little deja vu.Valve does something crazy
Everyone hates it on announcement
Time goes by
Everyone praises Valve for doing it on release
hrm? usually valve suckers/fanboys gather to praise at the very first glance of a new product, then yelp like puppies when it's not released on time.
it's going to be interesting to see their take on dota (though i suppose it'll be very familiar), but i reckon they'll have a problem introducing the game to the masses. dota is the opposite of casual gaming; i guess it wouldn't be far out to say the complexity of the game was unrivaled by any other game. tutorials and training videos can only do so much, and we'll be likely to see a huge divide between players who can play the game, and players who are fodder. dota has been, and will always be a niche game; hunter s. thompson said it best: "when the going gets weird, the weird turns pro"
Quote from SteppenwolfIs it bad that i've never heard of Dota?
insert hp remark about "WHAT HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS" (reference to the goddamn alien(s) thread)

because - like it's stated in the article - when it's good, it's possible the best experience in video games, without exaggeration.

surprised nobody has posted this yet. i don't think i've ever experienced radio silence in this forum while valve was announcing new shit...

i was never really a big fan of war in civ, in civ 4 i made more cultural victories than anything else. i just haven't gotten to the point where i have explored other winning conditions. although i would say timed victory is the most boring.

i just played singleplayer properly for the first time (as russia) and i basically handed it to them in wars. the great general buildings are insanely powerful in combination with artillery. and cossacks just plain kick ass with flanking, i took over 8 cities in a row using only 4 of them. i can't help but feel they made the game a bit too easy - im playing a pangaea map and nobody dares to attack me up until the 1600?

haha warby, chin up. your game will no doubt do just as great (ok well maybe not racking in the millions, but hopefully enough to start a studio proper)
