I still found fallout really easy. Definitely an improvement over Oblivion but still far too easy for my taste.
difficulty systems in general are fickle. you'd need something dynamic like the AI director from L4D2 to accommodate and tailor the experience to the player's liking. and then that doesn't even take into account the difficulty of minigames, such as stealthing or lockpicking or hacking or whatever.

If that's allowed in this competition, why even try to make a level with Hammer or something similar since there's a disadvantage. I think it should be limited to Unreal then making this the Unreal 20 brush competition

i agree. or at least in the event that any engine tools can be used, that the differences between the engines are kept at a minimum

Basically what kung fu said. And yep, the tower is 2 subtracts and 1 add for the pillar setup.[Blocked Image: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y299/erratic101/x1.jpg]

shouldn't that be allowed for other engines as well then? doesn't seem very kosher when those brushes are in fact concave: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concave

yeah i was thinking that... there should be convex brushes only?
-
how the hell can you make those trims with 20 brushes?

The 3DS uses cameras to make the goggle-less 3D work AFAIK. They track your eyes and stuff, adjusting the picture appropriately.
As for the iPad, I'm not one for religiously getting every new iteration of hardware but I have to agree that your timing is remarkably bad. It's extremely likely that the iPad 2 is going to be announced within days, and the new model will be out in April. Apple tends to keep a very strict annual schedule (notice that every single iPhone has had a June/July release) so these rumours will almost certainly pan out.
I mean it's your money, but I'd personally wait a month or so if I were in the market for a iPad due to the likely inclusion of a 'retina' display (ie: double the resolution), as I personally think the original iPad's screen is significantly inferior to the iPhone 4's when it comes to sharpness, vibrancy, etc. In fact the iPhone 4 and the iPad have almost the same resolution.
It's most probably not too late to return it, so you know...
he's still in denial, there's plenty to go before acceptance.

A question: do we want to allow specialized brush / displacement editors? I'm referring mainly to Microbrush2, DispGen and Twister. On one hand, they're not level editors... but on the other, they can do really cool stuff and people might make cool stuff with it. I can imagine some awesome effects with Twister especially, and if it encourages people to go out and try / learn these tools and bring it back to their other work, isn't that good?
let's just keep it simple, there's no real reason to make this overly complicated. people make maps with 20 brushes, end. not models, not props, not other bs.

Did you know that Nick Cave and some other persons of interest formed a group called Grinderman? It's seriously the only thing I could think of when reading your post with its many references to grinding. Just thought I'd stop by and crack that egg of wisdom for you.

new year new thread yadda yadda i'm revving it up with mafia 2. i dont think i really could appreciate gta's way of doing a story, but holy shit the way mafia does just clicks. much better than i anticipated, and well worth the 10€ (not sure if that offer is still going).

the lighting in the first shot makes it seem like a photograph more than ingame graphics. i didn't think we were so far ahead on photorealistic lighting.
