actually i always found thief games short on ranged knockout. i could never get used to the gas bomb and much rather have blunt arrows. but yeah fire arrrows etc pretty much exploded on impact afair

Thief is awesome yeah, but it's two different genres / type of games too. Hard to compare the two.

This. However I'd rate them almost equally high, although Deus Ex is a bit more consistently good throughout for me, and its sci-fi

i still rate both as stealth games. sure you have some very different themes, but overall i took mostly the same approaches in both.

thief games are WAY better than deus ex though. i thought the original deus ex was a bit too long, but it had some really cool bits. and a few pretty bad bits.

yeap, pretty valid thread to me. also for the record, quotation marks don't in any file as long as there are no spaces (i.e., "$envmapmask" "1" == $envmapmask 1)

Taking a stab at "The Witcher", a game I havn't played yet and keep hearing all this hype around The Witcher 2 coming out in May, especially from Dragon Age haters. So to see what the fuzz is about I'm trying out the first game and boy oh boy this is quite complex right off the bat! 3 combat-styles, each one with its own talent tree, 5 attributes with talent trees, alchemy is nuts, etc. This is going to take a while...

    ":2rk1team]http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/deus…ugh-trailerSome gameplay.

Tech wise, I can tell their engine is kind of behind the curve, but It's pretty good looking considering. It doesn't look amazing, but it does the job.

I like the art direction, I would argue It's a bit too brown and monochromatic, but ya know, at least it looks different and it stands out from the crowd. But I bet the texture artists (Klein ) had to struggle with all that amount of color grading going on in the game.

One thing I noticed, the world tends to look very blocky, It's almost like the artists didn't really think outside the box when they art passed the levels, and they prefered to stick with the level designer geo.

Everything looks like it's placed very strategically for gameplay, to make the cover swaps, etc. Which makes it look a bit gamey and again, blocky. And there's way too many crates man, but I guess that's what you would find in the back area of a warehouse like this, so...

hp you've still only seen one level from the game. i don't think you should expect a warehouse to be sculpted by an artist, because, you know, it's just a warehouse.

gameplay looks pretty standard to deus ex, looking forward to that. i hope they've got a level editor included aswell, does anyone know the engine?

  • Working: Games industry x Movie industry

    • Sentura

the movie industry is a glimpse of the future of the games industry, except the games industry is more rigidly enforced by business models.

also, some of the reason for why there are no stars or celebrities among video games, are a) not many may be willing to take point and speak their case, b) being a native computer medium, it has inherited transparency from its parent industry (software) and c) from a business point of view, not having any physical stars prevents companies from shelling out extra cash for what would essentially be personal endorsements.

i would also say that there is enough here to predict the future of the games industry, but i'll leave it at this for now (though ill reckon it won't be far until we see the first level design studios popping up).
