Well, somehow this game opens a next-gen market and as compared to Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 it looks dated. Not really I care about it, I'm more interested about the gameplay and level design which is a bit messy and unclear. Somehow I'm disappointed with COD:Ghosts as for the next-gen game and nice MP shooter...

Got it for PS4

Anyone played COD? Today some guys from the office were late because playing whole night. Maps visually are way better then before, I really like style and ideas like old castle or bay village. Awesome!

I'm getting the game today so if someone is willing to get his ass kicked then "theseir" on Steam is the guy you're looking for

I can't believe that I was reading that interview and had no idea about that trick! That's one of the problem solvers I've use, thanks guys!

Hi Mapcorians,
I'm struggling with the generic feeling of the modular pieces on levels. Right now here's some methods I found to solve the "boring modular corridors" feeling:
- get some non-modular parts of the pieces that will jump out the grid and change the proportions
- asymmetric corridors and detail composition
- tile breakers - textures, meshes...
Any other thoughts?

I remember such mesh from Q3 but I guess it was a custom made one or it was just a plane with alpha.
I was talking about a single truss wall, exactly like this one:

Good luck!

In Quake 1 times artists had to put everything on the diffuse. There was no freaky stuff like now (like that AO). Everything was baked into diffuse - shadows, detail...
Overpaint - method of giving a feedback by painting stuff on image

Sorry

Booooring rocks - both brushes and textures. You need to make some edges to get some lighting diversity. The texture is a bit like handmade mud ball. Q1 textures had more "content", there was no bump or AO, it was a flat brush so LD should get most of it with diffuse and brush variations. I think you can stay with the rocks but make it more bad-ass, not just rocks on part of the building, you can add some nice detail that holds the stones on the top. That's a little story you can include, in Q3 nobody will tell you "no way, it's unreliable" but if you'll make something actually reliable then you'll hear "ok, that's ace!"
Get some inspirations and references, make it less isolated, make a nice composition of the rocks, make it unusual!
Pipes in rocks - no-way :>
Maybe it will be too much but that room is what about? I know it's a Q3 level but what's the story of the room. You need to get the main idea of actually everything. I guess it's a teleport room so let's say "the room is about the teleport stuff", how about emphasizing it instead of making everything on the same level (without the dominant).
I'll make you an overpaint

Your edges look super hard. Loosen up the support loops where possible. Will give you a nicer normal map.
You're right, I fixed some loops but there are some small parts that are hard to fix, I'll leave it as it is...

Guess what, the rifle is alive and the HP is ready. Hope so... Proportions are fixed, HP ready, will do the LP. I've added an AK mesh to compare the proportions. Remember that my rifle is highly stylized, it's more X-Com than Call of Duty.

I really don't like the comments from Kotaku like "Hope to take Gearbox far away from it". Somehow it's true, but it's another step reduce the distance between gamer and developer. There are some insults on Randy Pitchford and that sucks hard...

Dog cemetery, Sentura

Cartoon-ish graves and rotations are completely from a different vision, the architecture is straight and mature so it somehow fights. That tree wall is a big isolating the scene. Anyway, looks promising!

You're unlucky, I was playing BF3 MP for the first time few days ago and each play was fun except that one TDM level that looks like docks/port with containers and one building that looks like a hangar. I was easy target there with crapy weapon, I thought that I'm the only guy that's a beginer there.
BTW Right now I'm playing Syndicate and it's not so bad game as reviews say. Some things fail there but it is possible to like this game (except that glow bloom). It could be a nice game if had few more months to polish... I see that publisher was pressing the team, it went a bit uninspired.
I really want to play syndicate, but no amount of persuasion will ever get me to install origin.
I borrowed it from the office, it's not on my email, thank God

trying to pay some bf3, but god damn does that game have a gnarly, trollish community of little psychopaths. seriously thinking about ditching it since almost every server i visit has some homo either destroying their own teams' vehicles, retards ramming anything they can hit with fighter jets or people screaming meaningless shit

if anyone knows a good server (playing from the netherlands) i'd be more then happy to try it out tho, game itself is amazing and full of win.

Yep, hope to see photorealistic games ASAP and I hope people will se that there's something more than graphics, it's gameplay and story, the mood of the game and that lacks in most of next-gen titles...
Still I'm not saying that QB will suck, I have no idea right now. Remedy is not a company that ships shitty games so somehow I'm calm about that but the screens looks like movie stills from Bond which isn't stylized at all, desaturation doesn't count

Still Quake 4 wasn't perfect but COD4:MW was a giant milestone in modern war shooters and one of my favorite FPP games ever. Do you remember the COD4 shitstorm before the release? Everyone was complaining but after the release it turned out to be a nice game. I don't remember Q4 having any complains but right now the title isn't mentioned as a industry example of perfect product. I guess it's all about the idea, that hook that will take you up or down...
Chris: Crysis 3 was OK, so 4th is next...
