boot sector virus.. for what year is your hardware :S cause your bios protects that boot sector..

i think your drive just failed, it happens.

if you want your data back, there are programs which can get the data, (without windows offcourse) but i don't know any of those, i am sure the programs are out there, because there are professional companies who do such things (get lost data back)

The thing is Gorion you can quite literally wait forever in the hardware game, as you yourself are aware I'm sure. There's always something just around the corner, and I don't think D3adlode is looking for top-end equipment anyway seeing as he's looking into GeForce 6 cards on eBay (wtf). In my opinion, if new hardware is more than a quarter of a year away you should just buy. Otherwise you'll end up frustrated because you can't play any new games, and get yourself into an endless waiting game where your only gaming-related entertainment is reading about what the next upcoming hardware is.

It's like the 8800 GTX. People told me to wait for the Ultra, then people buying the Ultra were told to wait for the Autumn cards that just came out, now those guys are being told to wait for the GeForce 9s, and it will go on and on.

Tere's always something less than half a year ago ready to render what you just bought obsolete.

    qft

but my arguments are that the G92 core is now just way overpriced cause of the shortage, and in 3 months time i am sure that will (must!) be solved. and especially with christmas, the prices are even higher

but then again, i dont think the geforce 6 series won't get any cheaper

a couple of things first; nvidia will be releasing their new series prolly around april. or as the rumour says February, so at least wait till february. (you won't even have a choice, cause the G92 based cards are always selled out, lol )

Then, nvidia has different 8xxx series, those based on the G8x core and those based on the G92 core. the G92 core has 256bit bandwidth for memory (GTX/*old*GTS has 384bit bandwidth and there for, 320/640/768mb memory). Also it has a smaller core, so it produces less heat, has a higher clockrate, faster memory and allot of tweaks.

The difference between that bandwidth (256 vs 384), you will only feel it with high res (1680*1050 and upwards) and with AA on.

Then the other thing, there is the GTS and the GTS.

1 is based on the G8x card and the other is based on G92.

the G92 is (allot) better. cause it has more shaders (128 vs 112) + newer core. you can regonize this GTS by the amount of memory (512 or 1024mb).

anway nvidia sucks so get an ati card plz (HD3870!!)

  • EA download manager ftw

Figured out part of my problems. The archives EA download manager downloads to install the game from are single files similar to Steam's gcfs. Now if you are downloading the cache to a drive formatted to fat32 (I was puling down to a large external drive) fat32 does not allow single files larger than 4g (32 bit) so the download manager would die as soon as the file reached this size.Talk about a fundamental programming f*ckup.

oh wow, ea programmers are failing again (a big surprise there )
