It's mainly development stills for me as an env artist, and also I find that Ron Cobb's original concepts for Alien are really useful too. He's very good at depicting shapes which transfer really well to 3D!

Also, bonus pic, the semiotic standard he designed for Alien!

Yeah I've been playing through career mode, it's actually quite challenging! Even getting into orbit is tricky in the beginning, and getting to the Mun. But yeah I think it's gonna kinda come to a bit of a slow down soon as I'm getting most of the good rocket parts.
It's definitely really interesting learning more about space maneuvers, and concepts such as delta-v. I spent a couple of hours last night reading all about the first Apollo missions, and it makes more sense now that I've played Kerbal! I really hope this game inspires the next generation to get into the space industry

Nice one man! Good refs. I'll upload some of mine soon!

Can't believe there isn't a topic on this yet!
Has anybody else been playing it? I bought it a few months back and thought it seemed pretty cool but thought it seemed far too out of my depth... However, I was reading some posts about it on Reddit the other day and it inspired me to stick at it. I have now spent pretty much the past 48 hours flying around the solar system, attempting to land on moons and planets. I'm hooked!
This game is awesome, once you get to grips with it. Has anybody else been playing it? It's pretty spectacular when you make your first landing on your first moon/planet! I just landed on Duna which was a right bastard to do. Next step.. Gonna try building some sort of space station and start mining me some Kethane, yo.

This guy's just chillin on Eve, stranded. He's probably gonna starve to death the poor bastard.

It's still one of my favourite films, and in fact, maybe even more so now than before I started working on this game.. You pick up on a lot of smaller details that you don't realise went into the production of it. Incredible what they managed to do considering when the film was made!

It reminds me of that scene in 28 Days Later when they're forcing the chimps to watch violent footage over and over to condition them to be.. violent.
I don't know what I'm being conditioned to do at CA, but I do feel very calm about having to blow up an industrial mining vessel, if ever that situation should crop up.

Hey guys I just found a Mapcore easter egg in the original Alien film (kinda):

HOLY SHIT I CAN PUT STICKERS ON MY GUN! Life changing shit right there, guys.

Looks ace man, but I think it suffers from the same problem Siege has, in that everything is too noisy because of the lighting, and the ambient colour is too dark so it would be hard to spot players. I think increasing the brightness of the ambient, and perhaps giving it a slight blue colour would fix a lot of that though.
Looks amazing though!

Really wanted to learn a bit of UDK, having only ever really used in-house engines and Cryengine before. I'm really impressed with the material stuff, but going back to baking lights feels like such a step backwards in terms of time wasted! Bounce lighting is nice but lightmaps are so tricky to work with.
Still very WIP, just blocking everything out still.

Fuckin hell that was so English, my brain nearly exploded.

Awesome style dude.

Does that mean your walls are displacements?
-
You should really read the book, and the sequels. Its a fantastic series. Speaker for the Dead is incredible!

You're not going to be crunching with the young guys at age 65, I can tell you that
Oh right, are you 65?

Yeah I like that map, it's nice and open, but I think it could do with a good pass. Feels like there isn't much gameplay really, it's just so open. A few more distinct paths might be nice, but nothing too limiting. It definitely feels like one giant displacement rather than a natural open level.

A lot of CSGO stuff tends to not even bother with normal maps.. And from my experience, I find that Source does some pretty weird shit with normal maps, they never seem to display properly

I'm seriously addicted to this game right now. The gun combat feels so great and satisfying. Do you guys have plans for more maps?
