Looks awesome but one thing that really stands out for me is the really unnatural way the karts start randomly rotating whenever they're in the air and spinning wildy when they land. Looks kinda broken.

Of course I meant getting a position in the industry is the beginning and not the end, absolutely! There's a lot you can go on to be from an entry Level Design I guess. But I often get the feeling I'll never know!
There are a lot of external factors atm which are most likely making things hard for you than they would have been, say, a year ago (Economic crysis, doom and gloom) and I wouldnt take it personally. Just dont give up - use your time to continue to push yourself and improve your skills.
Back on topic, what do you think of the making and selling assets instead of whole maps Warby?

":2guqzwfi]Ah, very, very nice!Funny I was talking with Buddy the other day, I should get my folio remade as well, and mentioned you'r old site. how it was so well structured, the colors, nice navigation, not the mention the really great quality work you show!

And now, I'm completely stunned by this new design! What can I say? It's simple, neat, clear, crystal and beautiful, and even more important easy as hell to navigate! So, big kudos for you mate, to my eye's this is what a trully professional env artist / level designer online portfolio should look like!

One small suggestion tho, make the "Projects, Info, Devblog" buttons a little bigger, or easier to see. It totally slipped by my eyes. I only saw them when dux mentioned you had a cool devblog, I was like "wtf, where?".
So yeah, that's basically it!
You're one of my greatest inspirations man! Congratulations.PS.1 Awesome job with Mirror's Edge, I'm so buying this for PC, as soon as it comes out! I love the visual style... just, love it!
PS.2 Any tips you wanna give us about how you made it? it's pure HTML, right? Where did you get that javascript image pop-up? And how did you tweaked it so nicely to blend in with the page colors?
Thanks for the compliments! yeah the nav buttons can 'blend in' a bit too much perhaps, might look into how I can make them look a bit more 'active' so that they stand out a bit more as links. It was made in Photoshop first then took the design into dreamweaver which is good for me as it's a lot more artist friendly and I cant do html for shit. Still required a bit of coding though but it was pretty much copy and pasting code from other areas.
As for the ND ROFL - I could write a book on the development of it, well mainly DaveL - it was like working with David Brent but more psychotic! But met some good friends and made some good contacts in the process. (apart from Phill K - he still sends shivers down my spine

There's no job in the world that any of us could get that would make us financially stable until the day we die. What I do think though is doing something you enjoy for money is great. Especially seeing your name on a title that sells well. I look around this forum though and see a lot of very talented guys in industry jobs, is it what you expected? Has it not really lived up to your expectations?
I think you're really getting the wrong end of the stick, and you also you seem to be missing the point slightly. Im sure that most people that work in the games industry have the same attitude as you - they do it because they love what they do. But you seem to assume that because someone has ambitions to do more that they niether appreciate where they are or are satisfied with what they're doing. I sympathise with your situation and I can understand where you are coming from but I think you need to understand that getting a job in the industry is only the beginning of your career and not the end.
Gabe Newel is a good example of my point and im sure he is pretty finacial stable.

Well I know there's been a lot of 'folio threads lately but I really want to get some feedback on my site which i have been working on redesigning for the past month or so and finally completed last night.
http://www.littlelostpoly.co.uk
It stemed from when i tried to update it with some new material and was always a complete pain in the arse to do and the design was 5 years old and looking a bit shabby. I was inspired by Big Philly K's folio design so I've tried to really simplify the content and design myself to make it as simple and as straight to the point as possible. I also made it a lot more web/google freindly with less images-as-text stuff and simplfied the navigation down to 2 sections; Projects and info.
I've been locked away with this for a while now so it would be good to get some outside feedback. Hopefully it wont need updating for another 5 years now

To be honest if you think landing a game industry job is the end to all your money and life's problems then I think you'll be sorely dissapointed. Dont get me wrong I love what i do with a passion, it one of the reasons I continue to do it even as a hobby even with a full-time job, but I think Warby is just looking for some kind of financial and creative independance as do many people, Games industry or otherwise.
Personally I worked for a year freelancing before I came to sweden and even though Dice is great, nothing beats being your own boss and having control of your own work. That being said it's a tough world going out on your own, and one of the reasons I left it behind was for some stability finacially and most importantly getting some valuable industry experience as well as doing some travelling while im young(ish)

I feel your pain warby. I've been wondering about making some kind of returns from my mapping also for a while. An idea i had was to create and sell custom content for mods - i.e. textures, models, sounds etc available ready to use for a number of different engines (people are always looking for props to use in garry's mod, machima etc).
Whenever i release a new map, the amount of people I get emailing me and asking me if they can rip all my assets to use in their mods is huge and im thinkin there may be something in it. It would all be microtransaction stuff really, low prices for individual items but I kinda get put off by the fact people will probably just share the stuff around once one person has downloaded it though but that seems the nature of things in this day of age.

About the swedish system: i think it's super convenient but not very safe (like a lot of things in sweden lol). My bank card also is a visa card (technically), except when i buy something its not on credit its what i actualy got on my account. But it's cool for online shopping etc. I can understand Chris' pain with the german system. Back when i lived in germany i used a pre-paid visa card for online shopping or a paypal account. In both cases i first had to transfer money from my bank account to the visa account or the paypal account. And because most of us germans are scared of online banking i actualy went to the bank personaly to do this.
Here in sweden everything is different tho. Online banking is the norm. You only go to the bank personaly if something is very important not for the usual stuff. I only was there twice when i opened the account and when i got my bank card.I was shocked at the lack of secuity when I started to use my debit card in the land of swede. I've never seen anyone ONCE, check the signature on the back of the card with the reciept, and as they dont have chip and pin hardly anywhere here i was thinking someone could have xmas early if they ever managed to steal my card.

You'll make my xmas if you do! Awesome work mate

-
Congrats guys, impressive stuff, had a hard time convincing people at work that it was a mod and not a Valve product!
-
he also has a plesant odour!
-
Thanks so much for this mate! Especially for making 64bit versions also!!
I just wish there was a 64bit Photoshop VTF plugin to make my Source tools complete!

-
indeed! I really wish people would stop jumping the gun and grabbing there pitchforks everytime the word EA is uttered. As for the layoffs, it's natural in this industry that projects are cancelled and people have to be let go. Doesnt mean EA are evil it's just common sense.
-
Demo is out today for PS3 and tomorrow (31st) for xbox 360. I'd be interested to know what you guys think

-
I dont believe it for a minute, if this comes from some EA forum admin i'd basically ignore the whole thing. This isnt the first time i've heard someone talk out of there arse like this.
-
awesome thanks!
