i used to work at zootfly (http://www.zootfly.com) in slovenia, and this is what i found on their homepage:
QuoteZootFly is all about the team. We have a flat structure without clueless middle management, Nazi producers, and power-hungry bosses. You're responsible only to your teammates. They'll kick your butt if you're late, but will buy you a pint of lager if you excel.
are they for real? i mean, WTF?
please discuss

check your normalmap's third channel, there you can find something similar, but not quite AO.. you can by hand convert your normalmap into a heightmap if you check the link i posted earlier..

try this:
and try blending it with your diffuse, this can be good for spec aswell..
also, those extrudings, "boxes" in the middle of the diffuse are a little to dark, try masking away some of the occlusion there.. thing is, occlusion is a good thing, but can be bad if you use it to much...
i like it

crank up those parameters so you loose the noise in the render =)
yeah thats the layer in PS, yes you can get same result in max, if not even better.. i dont use max that much myself, but check google for tutorials in max on how to bake occlusion or "shadow maps" as its called.. search google for "3ds max occlusion tutorial" or something like that, and you will find it...
or check http://www.tutorialized.com, you might find it there
