For MGS, I never had a PS before the 4, and tried MGS1 for PC after I had played Splinter Cell, so I wrote off the franchise as too clunky back then. I did buy Ground Zeroes to try and see the modern experience tho, but haven’t got round to it, other priorities.

Warren Spector alone didn't make DX1 by himself tho. I think the dream for me would be to bring Spector in sure, but Harvey Smith with his experience with Dishonored, Sheldon J. Pacotti and Austin Grossman amazing writing skills and Viktor Antonov directing the art, and i'd love to see how Alexander Brandon would reenvision this universe 2 decades later, with his synth heavy musical tracks.

Maybe Bethesda should buy the ip and give it to arkane?! The decision to have the DX:MD team make an Avengers game was such a weird one... Maybe they can go back to DX now.

If you only want to level design, it might be easier to pick a game you like, and mod that game.

Some games still release with modding tools, like Fallout 4. For MP, CS:GO still has a very active and thriving mapping community.

Reason this is probably better for a beginner, rather than starting out with UE4 or Unity is that these games already come preloaded with loads of content you can play around and reverse engineer. As a beginner, it can be a little daunting to start out with an engine, since you pretty much need to do everything, even with all the marketplace stuff.

Understand how games are made, by reverse engineering them, then make your own.
