I really doubt they will notice $10 million. Small price to pay to get this out of the headlines.

Maybe @FMPONE the lawyer can enlighten me.

I mean, afaik/what Suits teaches me is that you could settle and not admit to fault but is pretty shit for victims to accept without a real win.

Also at the same time these people won “Esports studio of the year” because their tournaments are well organised, basically spoil the critics and you’ll be on the bright side, as basically admitted by Thorin in his latest video in the Esport Awards.

Most cases settle for a bunch of reasons, courts encourage it. Less risk, losing outright can be devastating even if you appeal. You don't want to find yourself at the mercy of a jury/judge.

I mean they signed/secured shows with movie icons like Julia Roberts and now Al Pacino, they are doing LOTR and going straight to two season; Jack Ryan as well important lead and a good show. There’s other stuff I totally don't care for like the Orlando Bloom/Delavigne show, but still impressive in the overall picture.

It’s amazing what *checks notes* endless billions of dollars can achieve ;)

There are two people in this thread who are consistently annoying. You two are on thin ice.

Be considerate. Stay on topic. Be constructive to a fault. Or we will show you the door.

If you want to report issues with another user, go to the mods. The way it was handled here comes across as petty.

This makes me very curious. I don’t really have enough space near my PC for room scale. It’s really a bummer because I almost, but definitely do not, have enough room. Barely missing the cut off. Hopefully the game isn’t going to be way worse if you’re standing or sitting...

Executive producer isn’t as interesting as, say, “director”... but it could be good :)

Jordan Peele as a director is batting 50/50. Us was bad, get out quite good.

I don’t see people all of a sudden falling in love with this alienating technology, whilst AR is becoming everpresent.

When VR = sunglasses you can put on, the entire world is going to be different in terms of media. I know Google Glass kind of tried to do this and sucked, but I just get the sense that's the holy grail. (outside of neural stuff)

I kind of judge technology these days by what little kids use when they're bored in the living room. Right now, that's an ipad, and I think it's fair to say the whole ipad/iphone revolution was the last big "woah" moment for consumer tech. If it got to the point where they were wearing glasses that would be about the same convenience level.

I'll drop the dough to get a new Index, hl3, etc.

VR does indeed suck, I mean we can just be honest about this, we're all friends here. VR sucks. It's not good. It's bad. You're strapped to a computer, you might not have room for room-scale (doesn't sound like this one will be room-scale), it takes forever to get everything unpacked and ready to go, it's barely worth the hassle once you get "presence". All of this is objectively true. VR sucks ass. It's not good. It's very bad.

THAT BEING SAID, it's a Half-Life game, it will probably be very cool. It will be, hopefully, the "best case scenario" for VR. I don't want to dismiss it outright because I hate VR. (but I do hate VR). I'm hoping it will redeem the entire premise of VR, which heretofore has only been cringe.

It's obvious that decades in the future VR will be all there is, and I suppose we don't get there without these kind of necessary steps.

You can call it whatever you want, we have to do the work of designing objective rules. These are the ones we came up with. If you don't like the rules, there is no pressure to enter the Contest. Every Contest will have different goals, rules, etc. We want to provide additional encouragement to the mapping community. Sometimes people will spend a long time polishing something where, they may have been better off starting from scratch. Other times, they had something sitting around that was worth re-visiting. Both situations provide value to the community, and thus far the only winners of our Contests have been works started from scratch during the Contest.

As long as entries conform to the rules, as written, we will not disqualify them. It's really that simple.

It is not "difficult" to catch people who are working on stuff they haven't released. It is impossible.

Thus, we're not attempting to do it.

If you really expect that everybody starts from zero when the contest starts, you can just forget it. Because nobody (except some hackers and intelligence agencies :P) can control what's going on the hard disks of people. People can easily keep finished maps secret until a contest starts. The only way to avoid this would be to have a very limited theme (something like "snowy castle" and NOT something open like "exotic places"). But this would have the consequence that very few people would participate in the contest. Because nowadays most people need something like 2 years or more to create a new map.

This summarizes my thinking. The problem with saying “you have to start from scratch for this contest” is that there is no way to enforce that. Someone could enter the contest with a near complete map which was never released or shown publicly and say “I built this in one day”. So, there is no magically getting around this problem. We would all know that’s BS but there would be no way to enforce it because as you point out, we’re not the CIA. We created objective standards so that we can apply a set of rules to them (no maps which were publicly released in a condition further than greybox).

This discussion seems to be getting a little, or maybe a lot, off track.

This entry confirms to the rules. The only publicly released version prior to our Contest Announcement was a Workshop upload with custom greybox textures. Custom greybox textures do not violate our rules on prior uploaded work.

As for criticism of maps posted on Mapcore, I’d like to remind people that there is always a human being on the other end of our forum. Constructive criticism is the central tenet of our forum. If you don’t have anything constructive to say, step away from your computer and go for a walk. Always remember the human being on the other end of your monitor.

    Thanks.

edit: Off-topic posts (arguing about whether the entry conforms to contest rules) will be hidden/removed. If you have any questions, refresh your memory of the Contest Rules.
