The advantage being that you dont need to wait an hour to see what your lights look like in-game.
Having worked with both, it doesn't end up being an advantage, you just sit there tweaking stuff endlessly that needn't be tweaked. The Source bounce light system is way better, if you could remove compiling from the equation it would be hands down. The problem with NS2 lighting is that you can't set ambient light to go across the entire map uniformly, and the skybox has no impact on level lighting. Two huge problems that hold the engine back IMO, but then again it reflects the nature of the game (total darkness is sometimes required, such as when aliens cut out the power in a room)

Anybody else seeing a flesh colored image jutting into the header from time to time? Are we being subconsciously influenced to eat carrots? What is going on here

I think 1) Walt will force the grey matter company to pay for his wife and son in the future 2) jessie will kill lydia (and call her a bitch in the process)

NS2 requires its own almost light-optimization pass, because you start using a hundred lights to achieve the results you want, but upon later analysis find ways to achieve the same final results using less light entities. Haven't run into that problem on Source, honestly

Still haven't had time to play it but here's a (slightly annoyed) article from the director/composer of the game:
http://www.edge-online.com/features/the-i…tening-concept/
I gotta say I both agree and disagree... I like all the diversity we have in games at the moment and I like what they're trying to do, but it doesn't mean that it should be incompatible with gameplay mechanics... hah...

My immediate reaction is that this is an attempt to justify the inability (be it a lack of resources, or desire to do so) to make an actual... game...
"The Chinese Room is unusual in that a writer and a composer head up the company." Uh-oh. "Mechanics will probably never be our core focus as they’re not the reason we’re driven to create." Double uh-oh. I had a lot of words here about why games need to be fun to play, but honestly its such an elementary concept that you either get it or you don't, and it appears from reading that article that we're dealing with a "don't" situation

Dev textured or early versions of Agency, Ali, Chinatown, Gwalior, and Ruins were also played on the Mapcore test server.
Someone did a basic fly-through of all the maps.

Working on a small Porco Rosso flight sim game designed for VR... it's about looking around, so it had to be an open cockpit game, so... Porco Rosso. It's called "Nostrum." Currently a finalist in the Oculus VR jam, cross your knuckles for me!
This looks like a blast in the Occulus
