  • Max render to texture lighting map bug

    • Zeta
    • April 15, 2008 at 1:52 PM

After to searching for a way to quickly bake lighting on my models a friend of mine eventually wrote me a quick script that creates AO maps simply, which works great. However, sometimes doing rendertotexture > lighting map produces a nicer render, or one with more definition in it, so i sometimes render out a lighting map as well. I seem to run into a problem everytime i do this though - lighting data seems to always be missing or less defined on one part of the render than on the rest, producing an inadequate final output.

    Here is an example:

    [Blocked Image: http://i32.tinypic.com/20jpzeq.png]

You can see that there is a single skylight in the scene, centered and placed directly above the mesh. 80% of the output on the map looks great, exactly what i wanted, but some of it seems just not be receiving the same lighting as the rest. You can see this clearly on the left portion of the top of the dome - the shadows in the recesses abruptly change to a lighter tone.

Does anyone have any clues as to how to stop this from happening?

    cheers

Looks nice. Maybe chamfer the edges on top and bottom two blocks, a white outline around the text might help it pop out better as well.

I don't really know a whole lot about this (someone just linked me it) but there is a page on this website that sends you a cd key for use with some game on the microsoft live service. Thing is that you can apparently use the key with any game that uses microsoft's online service. This means that you could pirate any of a number of games that use microsoft's service and be able to play online with the key.

Somebody might want to gives them a heads up on this, assuming it wasn't intentional.

The awesome thing about crysis is, with all the proceedural stuff practically all you need for a mod like this is great dino models - which you've clearly got!

    Shot looks fantastic.

I normally copy the early stages of a model (the original primatives) and move them somewhere else in the scene while i work on the full model. Takes a bit of forward planning to make it worthwhile though. Once the model is at a stage where you want to start making it more detailed, just save the basic version out as another file for use as the lod later.
