What? Hello, there are hell much open source games for Linux (Wesnoth, Warsow, Nexuiz, Transfusion, Tremulous, Globulation2, Battle for Survival) and there are also very much titles who have been developed or later ported to Linux. All Quake games and Doom3/Prey were developed on Linux too. Additionaly, ET:QW will be also for Linux available. There are also much companies who port Windows games to Linux. Like LIFLG, MLG or Loki (RIP...). A month before, X2: The Treath was ported to Linux. X3: Reunion Port is in the works. You can also wrap (NOT EMULATE) games and windows application through wine or cedega. Tough, there is much stuff who does not work (DeleD, Silo, MS3D, holy shit, i need dualboot; i have it^^). But its a start. Steam works very fine. Ive also tried HL1/CS:CZ trough Cedega. Not bad (for my damn machine). HL2/CSS works also OK. But only OK ![]()

QuoteLinux and Windows are usually so similar these days anways.
They are never similiar. Even GNOME and KDE who use to be kind of "Windows-clone" arent very similiar to the Windows Desktop. Their more concise, faster, more customisable (without 3rd party sofware) and using also a more safe architecture than Windows, because Windows is a Microkernel and has his GUI and all other stuff in the Kernel. In Linux, the Window-System and the Desktops or Window-Managers are external.
QuoteI just hate ATI for sucking at it, but support is progressively getting better every few months.
Full ack. Good that i dont buyed a ATI 2 years before. And now, im gonna buy a nVidia again ![]()
QuoteIf anyone haven't tried linux yet, then you should grab some distro right away
I can recommend Ubuntu but since Dapper, it started to get unstable. I loved Breezy and Hoary, but Dapper, meh, it sucks. Ive used Gentoo a short time and it rocks. I'll install it on my new machine. In fact, Gentoo isnt something for you if you arent suited for some hardcore compiling action and you dont have a good machine.

Very neat. Reminds me of Natural Selection and the Tremulous maps. Nice illumination but could use some more contrast lighting tough. You could also make a broken lamp in the middle who is flickering or something.
Not bad (i hope that those are custom textures
). Nice texturing and neat brushwork. I think it would look better with darker lighting.

Quote from NormySanWhen i say show i mean like every partition or drive gets it's own letter like C, D etc.
Like ive said, there are first the firmware controles (/dev/hda1, /dev/hda2, /dev/hdb2 etc.) and then the mounting points. Ive got my windows partition mounted automatically on boot. Also, ive gived the partition the mounting point /media/windows (or /mnt/windows on older distris) so the gnome-volume-manager (the little program who is responsible that external partitions mounted in /media or /mnt were displayed on the desktop, only in GNOME tough) gives the link of the partition-icon on the desktop the name "Windows". Thats neat ![]()

QuoteMaby there is one that shows them like windows does?
How do you think "show"?
You mean, automount? Hotplugging is included in mostly all modern distribution tough. Or you mean the Firmware controle?
Well, the Firmare controle (those /dev/hda1 thingies
) is made to handle very large amounts of space and harddisks. Also, linux partitions arent partitions like in Windows. Where you can only install windows on one partition, in Linux, you can make a partition for root /, /home (the home data), /usr (the program data and binaries), /opt (games and stuff), /usr/local (the program data itself), /boot (the boot data like Grub and Kernel stuff), /etc (configurationfiles) etc. So, for example. Youve got a root / and a /home partition. All stuff, who dont belongs in /home go's to the root partition, all /home stuff go's to the /home partition.

Quotewhat your're on right now grew out of a bunch of quantum physicists at CERN and Caltech trying to share data on teleportation experiments, as i understand it.
No. info.cern.ch is a open website in the internet, and not in the intranet (i think, the website seems to be down). It informs about the CERN itself.

Experimental... *sing* ![]()
Wfr, Sindwiller
I think that the lighting preview is still experimental. The way its rendered on that example might be realtime lightmapping (yeah, w00t-t3h-fu€k), because, no realtime lighting technique does need so long to calculate and does not work so slow. So, the lightmap is updated on every light-move, but only the moved light is being rendered. Maybe, the myth, Hammer uses software rendering, causes the very, very, very low performance (5-6 FPS, even on so a shitty system *duck* *runaway*). Well, have fun ![]()
