CGTextures is the only true online texture library. Someone help this guy, seriously!

Well, for me, games are some kind of art. Probably the most complex piece of art.

Game developing merges the difficulties and issues of movie making, like dialogues, story, mood and the way this stuff is brought to the consumer (resp. player), image painting, like colors, brightness, contrast, and sculpting, like shape and lighting impact on a figure.

The most difficult part is that on top of that, everything is more or less dynamic and interactive. A game nowadays needs to bring a specific atmosphere to the player, achieved by lighting, style and story, needs to make fun and be an experience and needs to have as much as less technical problems.

And that whole thing needs to be accomplished through teamwork. Which can be either troublesome or very, very helpful.

Because it isn't Freeware, but it's free as in freedom.

Anyhow, very nice tut. I didn't come up with the idea of coloring stuff (dumb me ^^)

Aren`t textures, not just with a Diffuse, but also with a (rendered) Normal and a Specular map belonging to this Diffuse still called NextGen Textures?I thought so!

    Never heard of that term

I know how Sauerbraten works, what I meant was why use a rectangular texture map instead of just 1024?

Ahh, well. The reference wasn't that big and well, I'm too lazy to make it up.

Why...2048X1024 again? It looks ok I guess, but the normals are very extreme and it's hard to determine any detail (which makes the texture resolution kind of useless).

Because, like I stated, Sauerbraten isn't capable of scaling textures due to its level rendering system based on funky, voxel-style cubes  If I scale it down, it'll tile too much and look unnatural. I think you'd better check it out: http://sauerbraten.org

Sindwiller... I kind make my mind up about that. What is it meant for?

That's actually a rock texture with green moss and stuff I had some kind of Xen map in mind (not a clone though)

    @ Method

Good stuff. I always wanted to see how the good people turn references into good textures

Uhm, well, wasn't 100% sure if it is worth to post it

2048x1024 (because Sauerbraten isn't capable of texture scaling and, yeah )

Diffuse, Specular, Normal, Height (for Parallax) and the current skybox for environment reflections

This is absurd if you ask me. How can you make a movie about the SIMS? You could just do a movie about a random, retarted family.

Is something like "Dark Messiah ("Evil End")" or "The Darkness" affecting people in POSITIVE ways o_O

You forgot Doom, Quake, Postal and Manhunt (though, they weren't showed in zeh movie)

Thread: Nice movie. Made me feel warm and fuzzy inside I think it's important to point out the positive aspects of gaming - not just the (supposed) negative ones, like Jack Thompson, Rainer Schromm and other people do. Gaming is an experience that makes fun, that connects people and where you can even learn from.
