I have 2gb of level design references and all in JPEG format. Just no way of easily sharing it ![]()
Simply amazing. I'd say your artificial light sources (spotlights) and fires could do with a lot more contrast and brightness though.
Quote from seirYeah, war only makes it worse, in our days nobody want to talk, it's better to kill the opponents instead of ask them what they want...
Good lord this comment pisses me off for some reason. You know what these extremist groups want? Death to Americans/infidels. (also notice how I DID NOT say Iraqi's)
But then again my position on this war hasnt changed since the beginning. You, me, and any other citizen in the world doesnt have even close to enough information available to make any sort of viable opinion about this war, there are just wayyyy too many hidden politics and inner workings to make any plausible position. And I really dont want to hear "its people killing people and thats bad!" because I can sure as hell tell you this isnt the only killing in the world going on right now, or ever.
Also, Im not attacking you, that comment just instigated my political frustration for some reason ![]()
Nope, most of the shots were taken with higher end DSLR's, well actually, all of them were ![]()
Those first three shots are fucking awesome
Quote from AlgorGreat photos, very sharp and great lighting. It's always funny to see what kind of folks are riding fixies.A few things I might mention, once a user jumps into the photos section, your Game Design section drops off the face of the earth and may be forgotten. I don't know if that's intentional, but something I noticed
. I might also suggest making your links run horizontally as well, since your site already goes in that fashion. Like Philip said if you change the colors of your links from the default blue/purple to something custom as well as do something like make the letters all caps with a different font, that may make the overall presentation a lot more professional with hardly any work. Once in the photo section, you may want to have the different links (People, Places, Bikes, etc) on a line below your main links (Photos, Design, Contact) to push the idea that there are sub-pages.
Alright, I'll try some of these ideas down the road. ![]()
Quote from CorwinTo do your horizontal scrolling, there's a template that works quite well at http://www.thehorizontalway.com
Can I just yank their code as long as I edit it accordingly? Like use all my own images and links?
Quote from PhilipKYes, very nice photos. About the site I like that it's so simple, however I think you'd gain alot on using some css-styles for the links so they're not the IMO ugly default blue/purple etc.
I have zero idea how to use CSS
And thank you
Quote from deceiverI find your categories for the different pics aren't visible enough too. Took me a while to realize there were different ones. Maybe align them somewhere else or somehow make them more visible? Other than that, your photographs are very appealing visually and have a nice consistent style to them.
Like a horizontal layout of the links? And thanks
Quote from alecmoodyDisplay MoreI like the simplicity of the website. The only thing I would say about the layout is that the site should start on either the photo or game gallery so people immediately see work.As far as the photo work goes I would do a tighter edit of the portraits and pull images:
http://www.jeanpaultron.com/portfolio/people4.jpg
http://www.jeanpaultron.com/portfolio/people6.jpg
http://www.jeanpaultron.com/portfolio/people9.jpg
http://www.jeanpaultron.com/portfolio/people14.jpg
They are less interesting and don't fit as well, it makes the gallery look a little all over the place.
The places gallery is good the way it is, it shows a consistent vision.
Okay so I definitely love the first three you mentioned here too much to remove them, but I definitely agree on the last you you posted, so I replaced it. I also haven't implemented all ideas posted here yet, but I probably will in due time.
I also added a "bikes" section in the photography area. My art director father says it portrays my ability to continue a theme across a few photographs (it was his idea to add this) So what do you think?
Oh lord, so much code ![]()
I know jack shit about this website stuff. Prior to making this website stuff a week ago, I knew absolutely nothing. But I do like that website you linked too, if not a bit too busy/wordy. I can try doing something along those lines.
Oh okay, I see what you mean. I thought you meant I should remove those images and then go back and re-edit the rest of them in photoshop
I do agree about your choices, I just wanted to have a little more work than I normally show because I have always been one to think "less is more". I think I should stick with that.

I was thinking the same thing, but I dont know how I would have images load immediately while still having you think you are on the home page, any ideas? And what do you mean a "tighter edit"?
Quote":32yix8fk]Not a fan of the horizontal scroll, but on this page I actually discovered there was one in less than 3 seconds, so that's got count for something!
The content is amazing tho man, not an expert either but they look good to my eyes. That photo with the mask is fucking AAA quality.
Thanks. And horizontal scrolling seems to be all the rage with amateur photographers for some reason. I really want to figure out a way to make it horizontally scroll with a vertical scroll wheel, that would definitely help
Quote from FrieChampI'm no expert on photography but your photos look fantastic!
Thanks man
Are you ready for the simplest site in existence? I started a making it with absolutely zero knowledge of what to do, so five days for this isnt too bad, right? I'd love to know some small things I could do to make it better besides changing the horizontal scroll, because I like that ![]()
Quote from BuddyWhat he means is that the photos you posted are just photos without any meaning.I kind of agree with the composition comment i must admit, example here:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2773/450 ... 2040_o.jpg
When the model is looking into certain direction you crop the other side. (seir mentioned it too) Like here:
Yeah I know they dont have meaning, I am just producing pretty images here
I do want to try my hand at some with meaning though, it could be interesting.
Also about the crop: I do agree to a certain extent, but sometimes you dont always get lucky like that, I was more worried about the placement of his head in coordination with the background. Whoops, you cant win them all I guess.
Quote from seirI see in the whole this topic that you like to hear only good critics. As I already wrote I was trying to show you some new technique that might give you a boost in photography. Getting such an responce from you with no respect and understanding gives me feedback that you understood nothing so it's only my waste of time. I know it's good to be in one shit all the time, it's easy and gives acceptable resoults but don't get drown in this. You know, many people didn't know how to get the essence from the critics. Sometimes maybe it have to be more simple, on his level of adulthood. So... "Maybe try something different and more readable?"
Dude, chill. I just didnt understand what you were saying. But I already told you, I appreciate the feedback, it was just a little confusing. Care to clarify your original feedback?
Quote from seirTechnically these photos are very good but they aren't telling any story. Some of them are like pimped facebook photos. Think about the usage of background and the crop of the scene. For example: the lady on the road with her bra outside. There's not enough information on the photo and it makes it more commercial, it looks like and advertisement photo of jacket. What she is doing there? Why she's exactly in the middle of the road? Why she's covering the line of road? Why there's so much space on the sides? Her body is curved but her face didn't show any emotions. It's like it's like runing on fun speed while sleeping. Photo with the guy and the bag is much better, technically not perfect but the crop is made almost perfect. He's looking on something on the right and the crop is a bit moved to right. This makes photo a bit more open and warm. The negation of this (when guy looking on right will be placed in the right side of the photo) will cause closing of the crop and makes photo a bit colder. It's because observer's eye is running through the objects that are on sight line of the model. when there's no objects, the eye is looking for contrasts, edges, light spots or any other detail. It makes watching photos a bit confusing. Placing the model in the center is the simpliest way to get observer's eye attention but it's cheapest.Try to show more scene on the photoes. Imagine that the key on the photo posted below is a model and he's looking on the front or on the left of the cropped scene. I hope you understand what I mean. Of course you don't need to agree, it's only the technique of steps of eye observation.[Blocked Image: http://mjenso.webd.pl/fotolog/2010-04-06/e_b.jpg]
I mean thank you for the comment here but dont you find this to be a little ridiculous? I want to create images that are visually appealing and have something that stand out, telling a story isnt always a necessity. And being brutally honest, how do you think the image you posted accomplishes anything you stated? I guess I am more confused by your post than anything else. ![]()
Quote from duxWho cares, she's hot as hell and that makes up for it

Quote from Ginger LordThe weakest one imo is the one of the girl in the corridor. I'm not sure where the focus point is but her face looks a little blurred.
Yeah I get that. I slightly missed the focus, but still liked it enough to use it (I never do this)
Thanks guys. And e-freak, its a good point to make, trust me. But when the presentation is as informal as posting them on a game design forum, it doesnt really matter. I only used the venetian blinds shot in my portfolio.
Your skybox is atrocious and the same can be said for your lack of AA, son. Post some more shots.
Yeah thats everyone's favorite. But as for the street girl one, I had her stand in front of a street lamp and I positioned myself so that the light was directly behind her head (also gives a little rim lighting)
All of the shots I posted are using only available light (sun, street lamps, etc)
I think its weird how you have a little shanty town in front of really new and clean wind turbine things
Wow, its been a while. Why not.
