  • Apeirogon Entertainment is hiring

    [Blocked Image: http://apeirogon-games.com/images/jet_force.png]

Apeirogon Entertainment is a brand new indie game company located in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We are currently in the early prototyping stage of our first project JetForce - a Sci-Fi first person shooter with a twist; every player has a constant flight jet pack ala The Rocketeer or Dark Void.

At this point in time we're looking for an environment artist who would be willing to volunteer some of their free time towards creating some environment prop models for the game. This job is on a Volunteer basis with possibility for Royalties after passing the probation period. If interested please contact info[AT]torquemod.com

We are also hiring for several other positions which can be seen on our jobs page http://%7boption%7d

For more info on the company visit our website at http://%7boption%7d

To view our infrequently updated JetForce art dump gallery visit http://%7boption%7d

At the behest of my concept artist, I'm posting our "agreement" that we're signing with all of the team members. He thinks its a good idea to point out that anyone volunteering to help us out retains ownership of their work and if we do get funding, a new contract will be required. http://%7boption%7d

Yes, the whole site is a work in progress in terms of content. I don't really want to merge any of the pages since I'll just have to create them again in the future when the content becomes available, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. Yes, lighting is definitely something I need to work on I realize but thanks for bringing that to my attention again. I'm going to be working on some new maps soon for the MP project that I mention so I'll do my best to get the lighting looking a lot better. Also, just to mention, these maps are all at least a year old so hopefully my newer work will look better.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Hey all!

So I finally decided to quit putting it off till later and I registered a domain and created a website for my portfolio!

    http://%7boption%7d

Here's a preview of some of my work:

Thanks for the offer. Send me an e-mail to [email protected] and we can talk more. I think I've got most of the coding down, but its always nice to get help. I'm more of a garphic designer than a programmer.

I'm debating on removing the frame from the site. I think I most likely will as it makes the site place better in search engines anyway.

Thanks for pointing that out though. I work on a 22" screen so its a lot harder to guess as to how things will look on smaller screens.

Thanks for the advice Shadow. An image based way to e-mail would be a great idea. I honestly wasn't thinking because I was up late putting everything together.

As far as functionality of the site, I have no problem re-creating it in the future if it expands. For now, the current format works well enough but again thank you for your suggestions.

You've got some beautiful work there Minotauro, I'd love to add your work to the list. All you need to do is fill out the application and provide me with some links to some zip files so I can take a look at them in game.

    Hey all!

I registered the domain http://www.hl2list.com/ a few years back with the intention of creating a sort of review site for HL2 maps but never had the time for it. I've now decided to create a new website/community for level designers (of all engines) to have their portfolio hosted and to participate in community Projects and competitions like they do over on polycount.

Right now the website is still in the alpha stage, but I'm trying to find designers who might want to add their works to the list. Take a look at the site, and if you think you'd like somewhere to post your portfolio and you'd like to be a part of the HL2 List community, please send in an application.

Again, I'm not advocating that people cast their vote based solely on the fact that the conservatives are cutting new media funding. That would obviously be very stupid.

I just wanted everyone to know about their initiative to remove the funding.

Sending them an e-mail will only get me an answer as to why they're cutting the program. Its not going to prevent them from cutting it.

    I noticed.

Again, I'm not trying to tell people who to vote for, I'm simply informing them of one of the Conservative's initiatives. I actually had no problem with the conservatives until I heard about this bill and since I was 1 month away from applying for the funding myself, its a little disheartening to find that they were trying to axe it completely.

What are you talking about? The conservatives are the ones who initiated the bill to CUT New media funding. If they win, they WILL cut new media funding. Hence the stance of don't vote conservative.

If this topic was about my political goals, I would have told people who to vote for. My only reason for starting this topic was to let everyone know that if you vote conservative, you're killing any chance of inde developers in Canada getting real support.

I'm not even going to bother getting into a debate about the pros or cons of any particular party because that's not what this topic is for.

If you think that a government that supports the industry you love (video games /new media)is important however, then the conservatives aren't who you should be voting for as they are the only party who want to cut the new media funding.

you don't have to vote in the morning. You can even vote before the 14th if you can't make it in at the scheduled time.

i never justified it, stealing is still stealing. what i am saying is that regardless whether legal or not, it is a form of protest. in fact, you said it yourself.

Piracy isn't a protest. You're not pirating because you're saying "fuck DRM" In fact if anything, the only people "protesting" are the ones who crack the software. Being an average joe who downloads their software after its cracked, isn't making a protest, its simply taking advantage of someone else's work or saying, I support them in their actions. But really, you're just cashing in on someone else's work and saying "great, now I can get it for free"

Protesters don't work annonymously. A car bomber doesn't blow up a car and then shut up about it. They leave a message that says "I did it" to make their point.

    Quote from Sentura

fact is that most if not all people had enough wealth and were given enough service, they would not steal. ergo is stealing a protest. in our specific case, this holds true: if johnny had enough money and service, he'd not pirate; thus making stealing (or in this case, warezing) a protest against a) prices and b) service.

That is a very skewed way to look at things. You think that the only reason people steal is because they don't have money? I'd say more than anything people steal because they're lazy, greedy or self entitled. Sure, money is a factor, but its not the only reason. There are plenty of wealthy people who steal. Also, why buy a game or music CD or movie that I'm not sure I'll like if I can just download it for free? Or hell, lets cut the crap and just say, even if I like the movie, why buy it if I can get it for free?

Saying that people pirate because they're poor is basically saying that all people are altruistic in nature and that poverty causes people to become less minded individuals. That's absolute garbage. People are going to be theiving bastards regardless of their financial status. Having money does not mean you have the character and morals to prevent you from stealing. Your financial security has nothing to do with it.

Now I can say that people in countries where a product is not available really have no other course of action but to steal it, but again, I would say this is less a form of protest and more a showing of the demand for said product in a specific region. If the publisher or distributor of said product is too blind to realize said demand, then its their own stupidity. Its still however, not a great justification because if you really wanted, you could in fact purchase directly from the manufacturer and have them mail it to you.

Fuck off people pirate as a form of protest!

People pirate software simply because they'd rather get it for free instead of paying for it and anyone who says differently is simply trying to justify stealing to themselves or others.

If you decide to pirate something, its your own damn choice, I'm not going to lecture you. But don't try to justify a criminal act by claiming its a form of protest. That's just stupid.

Also, piracy isn't a protest against DRM, its actually supporting it. If Piracy wasn't so rampant, DRM wouldn't be an issue. In my opinion, a publisher or other company who uses DRM however, is shooting themselves in the foot because the ones who pay for your software are the ones who get hurt by DRM and you're only going to piss them off and force them to boycot your products. The pirates aren't affected by DRM because they always find a way around it within a week tops.

You want to protest against DRM, use your wallet. Don't purchase games that include DRM and DO purchase games without DRM. But stealing isn't going to change a damn thing. If you don't buy from publishers who don't use DRM, you're not sending a message to those who do. Notice how Ubisoft stopped using Starforce when customers stopped buying their games and complained about how shitty it was?

    Hey all!

This is a bulletin to let all Canadian indie game developers know about Telefilm and their New Media funding that is available to all Canadians who are trying to secure funding for their game projects.

    http://www.telefilm.gc.ca/accueil.asp

Through Telefilm, amateur game developers can apply for government funding of up to $550,000 (or 50% of the total development cost) for the development of a game.

For the past 4 years the Canadian government has put aside $40 million that is made available to all New Media applicants! That's a load of money for indie game developers and something that any up and coming Canadian developer would want to take advantage of.

Now the reason I'm making this post is because I recently found out that the Conserative party was about to pass a bill to CUT all New Media funding completely! No more funding for Canadian Game developers!

The GOOD news is that because of the forced election this October 14th, the bill didn't go through and we've actually got a chance to SAVE the New Media Funding.

    How do we save it?

    Don't vote Conservative!

I'm not trying to tell you who you should vote for next month, but if you're Canadian and you're at all interested in helping the survival of indie game developers, make sure you're at the voting booth on October 14th, and vote for ANYONE other than the Conservative party!

  • Petition to Valve for CS:S BOT source code

    • January 26, 2008 at 10:06 PM

Turtle Rock just got bought out by Valve for Left 4 Dead so I don't think it will be an issue and I dont think there's any BOT code in the SDK.

Even if there was, a proper BOT specific SDK would benefit everyone.

And to answer the question before it gets asked, this wouldn't increase people's ability to hack CS either. I'm not petitioning for code to affect CS, I'm asking for the code used in CS so we can use it in other Mods. Also, BOT code is server side and hacks are client side so it wouldn't affect anything.

    Hey guys!

I was thinking the other day about how awesome it would be if Valve released the source code for the CS:S BOTs, so I decided to start a petition. If you think it would be a good idea to have a BOT SDK then please, sign my petition and let all your friends know!
