I think the current name is perfectly fine to be honest.

If you are certain that a new name is something you want I would use words like corsairs, privateers, buccaneers, swashbuckler, scallywags (lol) etc instead of rats.

But again, I think there's a certain appeal to the current name.

I don't like it too much. Sounds like a Disney-movie featuring anthropomorphic pilot rats.

I don't think anyone from mapcore joined (or?). Didn't recognize any nicks.

PM me if you want to partake in future playtests!

    Hey MapCore!

I was planning on taking a break after completing precursor but... fudge that.

I'm overhauling a TF2 map I never finished and I'm going to have a playtesting session with it tonight! The layout has been modified and I want to try it out to see what works etc.

That's also the reason why it may look a bit dull atm. I'm holding off any major detailing until I have the layout nailed down.

    Download and some pics:

    http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=4616

I'm aiming for 6vs6 and half of the slots are covered by friends at the moment so just need 6 or so more.

Playtesting begins around 8pm CET (Swedish time) and you need to be in the European region to be able to play.

Post here if you are interested!

Youme, sorry to say but a part 2 will probably never be done. Not a direct continuation of the story anyway.

    Quote

The outro is supposed to wrap up the storyline for Precursor.

Now, say, when Half Life 3 comes out and I feel sp-mod-making-hunger I'll perhaps re-use or reference the characters.

It looks pretty solid man. There are three main things that could use some improvement (grapically, I haven't playtested):

    1. The surrounding area

It looks REALLY bland and it's pretty much an eyesore. Displacements and foliage need work.

    2. The lighting

It's okay in the outside area but could definitely be more interesting, especially inside. Review the various skybox list and the light_environment settings here: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_List

    3. The detailing

The map could use some more detailing, especially inside.

But that's it I think. Map looks interesting and has some nice brushwork.

    Also, I have some news!

    Precursor Sequel Announced (*april fools!!!)
We all knew this was inevitable. The players wanted more. I am glad we are finally able to go public with part 2 of the Precursor saga; Precursorer: The Ultimate Battle. We know expectations are high and we solemnly swear to make it even more precursor:ier then the original.

In Precursorer: The Ultimate Battle you take full control of White Forest, but while doing so you recover from your amnesia and remember that you are actually an elite special soldier trained to go back in time to stop Freeman before the events of Half Life 1. Did we not mention you had amnesia in Precursor? Well, you did.

You were chosen for the task since you are Gordon's half-brother (your superiors knew he would only trust his brother, obviously). Time-travelling isn't as easy as it seems and you will come to realize the importance of family in a world dominated by intra-dimensional aliens.

    Features:
    - Awesome-based gameplay
    - Bilinear vector-casting per-pixel isotropic mastering renders
    - Chest-driven female characters
    - Environments display rich IKEA-catalogue art style
    - Re-invent time-travelling FPS:es
    - Achievements
    - Epic storyline
    - 37 weapons

Based on all the major mirrors for the mod the amount of downloads is around 2k atm.

I have 16 feedback reports (sent in using the official questionnaire). People are mostly writing a little bit here and there about the game, especially on moddb etc so you can soak in a lot of feedback from all these various places (like your blog ). However, more often then not it's just a line or two but you still get a good general "vibe" from the community.

I am looking forward to hearing more from mapcore people!

Moddb users are a lot more easily wooed then the mapcore crew and I'd like some more input from here to ensure I learn as much as I can from this project. Don't be shy

Everything so far points to the game offering the exact same fucking thing I've been doing the last few years in fps games, which is shooting terrirst as a muhreen. With no situation requiring anything more then point and clicking, now cowadoody can somewhat get away with it because it's not about the boring nitgritties of everyday combat and more about playing epic music while zooming in and out of 3D GPS-maps with lots of intel flashing by, narrated by some bitter cigar-and-whisky-general, constantly jumping all over the word, and providing crazy scenarios to keep it fresh and interesting. While this is going to be just realistic enough not to provide any of that, yet not realistic enough to provide me with enough interesting variables because that would scare away casuals.

Hope the MP as arcady as fuck and I get to do all the fun shit I did in BF2.

Each to his own, but I feel that CoD is tame as fuckshit with it's nonsensical plot and failure to add weight to it's combat scenarios since it's too over-the-top and america-boner-inducing. The gameplay sections that aren't shooting people in the face are short, usually easy as pie and the novelty wears out real fast.

And yes, the genre's SP has devolved into three-dimensional whack'a'mole but I wasn't expecting something else.

However, I'm assuming the SP look and feel will translate into the MP and that is basically why my comment was a positive one.

I almost forgot to mention the audio. I totally agree with the comment below.

I like what I see. It seems that the campaign will be more focused on the nitgritties of everyday combat and less about playing epic music while zooming in and out of 3D GPS-maps with lots of intel flashing by, narrated by some bitter cigar-and-whisky-general (I'm looking at you CoD / Crysis2).

The weapon handling and feel looks great. No super-aim here and you can see that holding down the trigger for too long has some adverse effects on your spread.

    Nice.

If anyone has any MP feedback that isn't "lol stop the pirates" post away

    Some general complaints:

    - The functionality for finding a server, actually connecting to it etc, is terrible

    - Trying to connect together with friends is double terrible

    - The killcam is completely 110% off and inaccurate

    - Filters aren't saved

    - There's no server queuing

    - Hitreg is weird at times

    My personal complaints:

    - Shotgun is way underpowered, especially combined with the hitreg

    - In fact, the best weapon is SCAR and that's just the way it is basically (I haven't got KVOLT yet though which seems pretty good, but the other weapons... meh)

    - Weapon switches AFTER reload is complete?!... COME ON

    - You can't sprint while reloading (most of the times? I recall I have been able to). I'm a supersoldier dammits.

    - Make character more manoeuvrable... this is Crysis not CoD with Maximum Armor and Cloak imho (faster general walkspeed, faster sprint, more sprint).

    - Alter weapon spread so it favors controlled bursts rather then just being rewarded for a constant stream of bullets, weapon handling feels too easy to master at the moment

    - Reduce headshot modifier. When the hitreg isn't perfect the fights get a bit random and jerky if you're lucky to get a random HS in.

    - A requirement that you need to uncloak to fire (a bit controversial). I find often times I can just blast away two headshots at an unsuspecting passer-by without him having a chance to fight back as... you know, I'm invisible

    - I would like slightly better hipfiring actually

That's what I think. My main beef is that the game plays a bit too much like CoD when it comes to the gunplay and firefights. This is a game filled with supersoldiers, not human meatbags. I want less of blasting away a target real quick (as they move slowly and weapons are so goddamn accurate) and more frantically firing bursts and trying to get hits on a rapidly moving target.

I want my enemy to be a force to be reckoned with, a worthy advisory and less like a lowly grunt who can be dispatched real easy.

Yep, that was kind of frustrating. It slipped by me, my programmer and the final 10 QA-testers...

Just as we had gotten all the mirrors up and the download frenzy had commenced, I was notified of this issue. Since it's relatively minor and doesn't interfere with the actual game, we have decided to fix it in the next patch/update and not straight away.

And thanks for submitting feedback! It's always appreciated.

rick_D: I may or may not have done that (downloaded first and then purchased) when I was younger. Definitely not anymore and not with Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 is a good game. But it has two main weak points:

    - Story is WTF, poorly executed

    - MP is, right now, weak, a bit buggy/laggy and unbalanced as fuck

It looks great and plays great in SP. But alot of the cinematic "weight" is lost in SP because the story is so unfocused and poor.

And the component which greatly attracts legal buyers, multiplayer, because they can't play with pirated versions, isn't as strong as it could be.

    1 download =! 1 sale

A small percentage of those could be people making sure that their machine can run it etc.

If you are going to beat yourself up by tracking the amounts of downloads your games have on TPB, you'll go insane.

Piracy is a reality, there isn't much you can do about it directly and one has to simply always look of ways to work with this fact.
