I've been following this game for some time and I was very eager to play it. I expected that it would be a shallow game but I figured that the pure novelty of cruising from planet to planet would make it fun to goof around in.
It's definitely a flawed game and, moreover, a deeply flawed launch. But there's some... appeal to it. Can't quite put my finger on it. My gut feeling is definitely that it needed more love in the design department. Anyway, here's some screens from my first 4 hours.

What causes your lack of energy? Is it a health condition? I know you had all that trouble a few years ago with your.. heart?
Yes, I had the double heart surgery three years ago and, as the chief cardiologist has tried to explain to me a few times, this comes with a fairly long-lasting cognitive setback and reduced energy. I also take maximum dosage heart meds that slow things down a lot.

And it's still not finished.
Get well soon. Just wikipedia:d this and it sounds awful.

For me personally, I did quite a major change this friday. After finally coming to terms with that I do not have the health nor energy you would expect to have in your mid-20's, I came to an agreement with my employer to work shorter days starting this monday. I feel that I have been stretched thin the last few years and that it made me into an old grumpy man. Starbreeze has been very accommodating and understanding and I salute them.

All i've seen people do is nonstop collect ressources and scan some animals for cash. I've read there is life on every single planet. I don't know what the fun is in this. Feels so shallow if thers instant "reward" for exploration around every corner.
I would prefer a game that's mostly empty but where there are some meaningful things to discover if you put the effort in and take risks going deep into hostile territory with no save spots or whatever.
I've been so hyped for this game and recently I have started to dial back my expectations. Our imagination can run away sometimes when the game makers are a bit vague and not much footage has been released. In an earlier interview Sean Murray, aka No Man's Sky's programming guru, said that for every 1 planet with life there would be 9 lifeless/barren ones or something like that. Seems like they backpedaled on that. I agree with you that the discovery can feel a bit empty if they are too generous with that sort of stuff.
Anyway, we'll see, I still can't wait to play it and I still think it will be a fun game. Maybe 7/10 fun and not 10/10 fun, but still fun!

It's quasi-multiplayer. As I understand it (and to be fair, they have been very vague), players spawn on a randomly selected planet on the outskirts of the universe. The universe is vast and finding another player is apparently very rare. Players, in close proximity, will be placed in a "lobby" of sorts and be able to see eachother etc. Kind of like the seamless multiplayer of Journey if you have played that game. This is in addition to finding other planets and species discovered and named by other players.
It appears, however, that you cannot really "team up" with a friend and fly in formation or what have you. Other players will just be a rare and curious encounter.

I uninstalled it today actually... I don't like staring at my phone while I'm out and I didn't like the OCD-tendencies the game awakens.

Tried this during lunch. I can definitely see the appeal but I'm not sure if it's for me. It would be really cool if the combat was strategic in any way and not a total spamfest.

It's really nice to have my own place where I can come in and know there's not a huge mess in the kitchen to clean and that there's actually some toilet roll in my grime free bathroom. I can chill out on my sofa with a film on or go play some games without someone else lagging my game out.
I was also commuting around 2 hours 15 minutes to work. After the move that went down to about 1 hour 20 minutes today. Which is a big difference and should mean I can get some more free time back

Sure, the initial cost has been expensive but it'll be much better for me in the long run.
Wait, is this one-way or both ways? That's an awful lot of commuting.
Congrats anyhow!
