think it worked out ok for a first try after a long time of doing nothing of this kind of speedpainting. the cgtalk tutorial thread pushed me to do something again (although my work is nowhere near as good as what they've got over there).

maybe i'll scale the picture up and detail it more but wanted some feedback on perspective and mood first.

maybe something like a burning (and heavily smoking) oilpipeline or skyline will just do the effect...

it wasn't meant as an insult. if you can still tell why the exchange-rates between dollar, euro and yen are completely instable, why this affects your security and in how far it enpowers the chinese communist goverment than you don't need to fear anything, or if you can tell why the Nato currently splits up over german troops being used in south-afgahnistan and in how far this also pushes middle-europe into the focus of terrorist attacks than it's all fine but I doubt you can tell any details about this without watching the news...

very nice shots. one thing i spotted though was that it seems your lens distorts a little towards the sides. you can easily get rid of this effect with most lenses if you extent them completely (use maximum zoom/focal length) and step back a little. the perspectival difference is at minimum and all lines should be perfectly straight

the problem with not watching the news or ignoring everything is that it will cause you to be not informed enough to build an own opinion which MAY lead to indifference towards what's happening or simply uncapability to react to what's happening. Not to offend anyone but the opportunity to inform your self is one of our highest values in what we call the western hemisphere. The reason we can call our self civilized and independent individuals within people controlled democracies is based on the fact that we are well tought and be able to teach and inform our selves further. If we don't use this abbility we will quickly fall back into the dependence of leaders and mis-leaders and demagogues and soon lose the abbility and possibility to inform and teach ourselves. That's what you call the beginning of a dictatorship or despotism.

That's why you should watch the news, read as many sources as possible and try to be informed on historical and current events and theyr connections. To understand and react to what's happening and stay a self-determinated individual. Even if your blood-pressure rises, keeping an eye on and naming what's wrong in the world is one of the easiest but most important forms of civial courage.

  • EU / US Power Cables

    • e-freak
    • August 10, 2008 at 11:55 PM

The US use a 60 Hz Powersystem while the EU (starting with germany) uses 50 Hz. The Hz states how many times the polarity changes within the power device/cable per second. It's not so much about voltage or ampere as those in general don't do any harm as long as they stay within a range of +-15% of the supposed value but the frequency is what can harm the device.

I'd advise to stay away from your local bank

I'd advise not to joke about something like this, esp since this is not EOT.

i think merkaba is right and I'd vote for something like this. maybe we can have 5 colored textures (rgb+bw) and the challange is to create the most out of these 5 textures (maybe add some arrow decals and variations with self-illumination) in an already existing source game by creating an outstanding gameplay or game design.

edit: maybe not RGB (at least as long as not everyone can use color correction) for the textures but something not so eye-cancerish :S (or allow for 3 color tones to pick in each map)
