what this is is (probably Ubuntu) based distrib of Linux, that can automatically launch the Steam Big Picture Mode, is really light weight and down to the hardware and boots up hopefully really quick.
The way they say it I guess its still (partially at least) OpenSource and you can still access the standard (Ubunut/KDE/whatever its based on) Desktop and use it as a work machine, you can still install Windows on a seperate Boot, you could install a Linux based Origin if EA would have it, etc.. The fact that they give it away for free also means that everyone can build their own PC or if they buy, say a "DELL STEAMBOX 5" - they could (if dell build it like that) open the case and exchange the GPU after a year to play "contemporary military shooter megarealism 10" without wasting the rest of the systemm.
A friend put it really well saying "Xbox and PS4 are the iPhones and Windows Phones, SteamOS has the opportunity to become the next Android" - everyone does what they want with it, can feed of custom versions of it and even build their own stores on it. Its just making a Linux System more appealing to the mass-market with a thought through interface.

Quote from iSqueezeeYeah. They didn't included the new RC. It says missing CryCompressorRC.dll or something. Just use the one from the previous built. If you don't have it, here you go.

you have to play in compatibility mode (win 95) and set your desktop colors to 16-bit. Works like a charm. All Half-Life related tweaking tips apply.
Awesome game! Just played till the sattelite dish again

mh i'm not sure about the sprites for the modifiers. I tend to find it hard with sprites to judge where they are in the world and would prefer simple 3d models..
that said that stand alone looks awesome! great job

well one problem your approach is that you take the colored image and turning it into a height map. shadows become valleys instead of hillsides - the result is still interesting to look at but to reproduce the original image's shapes you would probably want to use a different conversion method. (check if next pixel to the right is brighter or darker and increase or decrease brightness value based on it - kind of what a normalmap to heightmap converter does).

That is actually an amazing idea. There's so much potential with having the player go through recognisable places, and there could be cool twists where the player expects something to happen and it totally surprises them. For example, you could be cleaning up the resonance cascade room after Gordon's fucked shit up and as you follow his path of destruction through the corridors you find a portal to the future and are suddenly in Ravenholm cleaning up dead assholes.
would be awesome if you find a lot of zombies and enemies just hanging around with something of a hangover and they just wander around and look at you cleaning their mess...

I had all my management and team organization lectures from their COO and he's a fantastic teacher and gave us students at the time a pretty good reality check. sucks to see them go down like this
