As with most of our younger mappers still in school times are slow but they do advance. These things are still going on. Take a moment to read through the already submitted interviews and send in one of your own. They will all eventually be posted.

Read them. If for no other reasons than to compare similarities and differences in the ideals that bring us ALL to the same end location. LEVEL DESIGNERS!

MY GAME WISH??? I want to walk into the store and see the ratio of console games and computer games reversed. I am about tired of it the way it is now.

For some reason I always assumed it was against the law to show minors getting killed in a video game... It was rather disturbing to see that youngun in the vid TBH.

A special thanx to those whom already sent vmf's. Your gratitude for past deeds humbles me.

    K. Will do.

    [edit]

Is there no way to download the help so you can view it offline too?

[edit2] I found the vmf's you meant. They'll help I suppose. Thanx guys.

I need everything I can obtain to be offline if at all possible. The primary reason I have been offline for 4 years is the unavailabilty of any form of internet connection. I now have a 3 gig limit wifi connection and you wouldn't believe how much you burn just looking at shit online.

You get spoiled to DSL I promiss.

Anywho. I need stuff I can use offline. Sadly, you cannot even use the Hammer help without being online.

I am calling in a few favors. Any who know me prolly owe me a couple..... Hundred, so please consider my request.

I haven't been able to map for over 4 years now. I'd kinda like to start again but have no real interest in reading tutorials for the next 6 weeks so I am asking those who can, to send me any or all their spare VMF's.

I am not really interested in completed maps, although I'd turn none down. I am more interested in example maps. I tend to catch on faster with examples more than tuts anyway.

You know my trustworthiness so stealing is not a problem. You know I'd rather build my own stuff anyway. However if you send me something WiP and you want it kept a secret, specify it please.

Any whom may not know me yet who have some spare maps lying around send those to please.

    Thanx in advance

    Orph

Not being here for a long time I am not quite sure of the rules yet. So if someone cries for me borrowing this thread apologize in advance. Also, If it is preferable I can begin my own thread.

As you guys know I travel a lot. I also take shitloads of pictures. Sometimes some are so good they beg to be shared. Enjoy this one.

No promises but I'll try to get to do something. Been away from Hammer for over 3 years now. I have quite a bit of catching up to do.

So we vote on something we dont know anything about?

    *sighs deeply*

You know, I realize that I do not frequent this site but I am hardly new to the HL community.

Why are you guys trying to dummy down this event? Are you trying to tell me that if there were a competition held here that you would have no say in it?

All I am doing today is trying to gain some feedback on a future competition. If you do not have any feedback thats cool. But please do not act as if you have never seen one in the planning stages before.

This site is invited to give its opinions about a competition being held at Snarkpit. Nothing more, nothing less.

can't vote, cant see any replies and the dicription is rather vague. you might want to elaborate.

Join up, add your opinion. Right now, its in the decision making stage so you might just influence the process.

Any other elaberation... Will have to wait until there is something to elaborate upon. Hopefully, by then you'll have shown enough initiative that I won't have to tell you anything.

  • Warning Signs. What would it take for you to know?

    • Orpheus
    • July 21, 2006 at 3:38 AM

Everyone seems to have a different opinion on the "Life" left in Half-Life. Some are certain its dead. Others are still as perky as we were back in 1999/2000.

My question isn't exactly to do with that.So please do not take up any imaginary gauntlets and go on a crusade trying to convince everyone that Half-Life is a live and well.

My question is: What would have to happen, or not happen to convince you that Half-Life is dying? I mean, what series of events would it take to convince you?

For me its 3 things. I will post them in order of importance, most serious first.

    1) I look at maps today and think, "This is the best..." Notice, no question mark. No exclamation point. Just a sentence that ends abruptly. Maps today are IMO many levels less impressive than at the height of the HL1 series of editing. Its reached the point to where many of us who were around then either have to bite our tongues, in some cases pretty hard, or just not comment at all.

    2) I remember getting 10 requests to critique a map a day. I'd be damned lucky to receive 1 request in ten days now. Mappers just do not seem all that interested in positive feedback. They seem much more interested in positive reinforcement. If you are not willing to stroke their ego's, they simply don't have time for you. Whats worse, manners has taken a serious nose dive. I used to be in every credits that I assisted on. I was used to seeing either "[DRS]Orpheus or simply Orpheus" I kinda like how my name is spelled in fact. So much so that misspelling it irks the s**t out of me. Spelling my name as "The Gang At Snarkpit" just won't cut it. I dedicated my time, the least they can do is dedicate enough time to proper spelling.

    3) One would think that growing up would be the worse thing. This event would spell the doom of HL. The opposite is true. Growing up is definitely what many of todays mappers need. My concern however is that most of the mappers are "Growing Away" They have simply lost interest, or have commitments that supersede the idea of dedicating weeks or months to a map.

Anyway, these are the three warning signs that have me convinced that Half-Life has done exactly that. Its about halfway dead now. In a couple more cycles, there will not be a life worth mentioning.
