What I don't like about steam, is being dependant on steam to be able to play your games. Even on the games that have non-steam counterparts. It's silly. And it often means you can't play it when the steam servers are down

yeah it's lame how the steam servers are down so often.
two times last year - pissed me right off.
do i even need a rolleyes here or is my sarcasm strong enough

if you can't render to texture then no. Upgrade to max 9 or 2008. Using max 7 is like using photoshop 5.

proof or it didn't happen.
how did the girlfriend know where they were (if they were in a hostage situation they could have been anywhere). I doubt the police would have gone to the trouble of tracking a mobile phone; if there was a hostage situation the police would most likely know about it already (otherwise it's just people sitting in your house telling you you can't leave - there needs to be demands and people to make those demands to).
Why didn't the girlfriend call back, text back, etc etc before simply calling the police.
The whole thing is very amusing, but reeks of fake.

I know somebody who was out with a friend, his friend recieved got a text message from his girlfriend and allowed him to text back whatever he wanted, and made a big deal of not looking what was sent. The reply was “cant talk now, in a hostage situation,” which was funny until the armed police showed up at his house at 5 in the morning.
GENIUS
but fake

I do hope you put in some gameplay elements other than just driving - it'll be a short lived game if it;s just mario kart without the bananas

I was once convicted of armed robbery.

then move the camera down a bit, instead of having it so high.

not at all true

D3ads: when doing stuff for FPS - never trouble yourself with what it looks like in that screenshot - ie: looking in. Run the level, look at it from inside. Pace it and see how long it takes you to walk around the room - how long is the player going to be in there - is there anything they need to do in the room - or just wait for something to open the door? HL is great because you know that 128 is a wall height - use it to your advantage because it looks good from the first person perspective. Go higher when you want to give something a bit of diversity or a wall really needs to be taller (a large/long corridor for example).
By looking at something from the outside - when you will play it from the first person you are only complicating things.

10/10 in the swedish magasine GameReactor.. How this be possible? =)
someone gave bioshock 100% / 10/10 so yeah, seems like bioshock and crysis are both the best game ever, utterly perfect in every way.
Scores are pretty retarded anyway, who gives 'so-and-so' the right to judge whether X is better than Y in terms of Z. I can see the point of them but they are still dumb.

Sorry, physical media is here to stay and digital will not take over, simply because games are getting bigger and bigger and internet connections aren't.
I downloaded CoD4 - just over 6gigs.
Where is your physical media god now?!??!!!
Digital is superior and only queers and steers want anything other than digital

right, just finished playing some of cod4 (hopefully not nearly all of it, but I just had to come out of game and write down my thoughts).
first thoughts:
god.. politics, oorah, yankees save the day etc etc. the end of the first USMC mission almost had me turn it off, the rap music and the ooooo-rahhh! were cringe-worthy and frankly: gay. I can see their purpose I just think it sucks.
I couldn't find a way to turn off the music? The music definitely adds a hell of a lot to the experience but sometimes I just like to play with the sounds of battle and let the gameplay dictate which parts are exciting or calm, a sudden peaceful loop lets me know not to worry about enemies. A shame but not a major deal.
A lot of the levels feel like straight up turkey shoots, with enemies popping up as soon as you dispense the last lot that were in X position. The abundance of grenades flying into small spaces is also annoying, yet strangely satisfying to lob it back at the enemy.
It still has that classic CoD gameplay where you dispense enemies in an arena and move into a trigger where your teammates are waiting patiently to start the next little series of turkey shoots; no matter if you spend 10 seconds or 10 minutes walking into that trigger - admittedly these little sequences are getting fewer and further between but it's something that always bugged me about the CoD games.
OK!! That was the negatives, I felt it was worth starting with the bad and moving onto the good

The game is fucking amazing! The turkey shoots in the 4th and 5th USMC missions are wonderful, very alive and chaotic, picking up an LMG and firing through foot-thick walls and actually killing the enemy is fantastic. The tank firing through the building was awesome; made even more awesome by the tiny hole in the metal shutter and the fuck-off great big hole in the wall - props to all involved in that little set piece as it made me tingle with joy at the attention to detail!
The environments in the first two USMC missions seemed very.. dull isn't a fair word, but they didn't seem all that great, but once you get into the later USMC missions some of the environments are just superb, running in circles through a level doesn't bother me as it's just a chance to see the great artwork all over again!
The plane mission: loved it. Props to all involved in this, again. I could sit down and play a whole game based on the premise of that single mission. Great voice overs, wicked particle effects and just an all round amazing mission.
Brings me onto my final comment (I quit the game after this little set piece) - the post-nuclear blast sequence.. holy shit guys, the ambient sounds, the camera effects and movement, the artwork, it all combined to make what is probably one of my all time favourite sequences in any game, ever. I was only bummed by the fact it didn't go on for longer.
Fucking 5 thumbs up for that guys, incredible stuff.
I haven't even touched on the Russian stuff, safe to say it pisses all over STALKER for atmosphere and visuals (bear in mind STALKER is a game I love) - some of the art in those series of missions is inspiring, to say the least.
Right, I'm going to go and play some more, even though it's 11.30 and I've got work tomorrow: I can't put this down. Congratulations to IW on what is one of the best games of the last 5 years.

Its a real shame K&L doesn't have online coop
Not a deal breaker by any means for me as I'm more likely to play with my flatmates than anyone, but it seems like such a glaring omission in a modern coop game.you are joking?!
how the _fuck_ did they let that slip?!
that is a serious blow; doubt I'll buy it now

I can safely say that they put WAY too much thought into that.

ahhh shit, this is confusing:
http://www.hourences.com/book/bookorder.htm
It'd be nice if there was an order button for each book instead of one for both (confuses people who click too quickly like me :x).
I'll probably end up buying your level design book anyway so don't worry abotu changing it; I'll just buy the PDF when the 2nd book comes out. My mistakes = more money for you
