i dunno, i like the atmosphere the cod engine can create, the actual content when you break it down is not mindblowing but it is pulled together very well. they must have great leads and a fantastic art director.

a guy from work said he completed the SP in around 5 hours, but it was a nonstop 5 hours of joy with only 1 mission seeming a bit "filler".

a shame, i feel a bit iffy about paying more for less (it took me about 8 hours to do the cod4 SP).

I can't decide if I like the automated chopper better or not. I guess it depends on how they handle the players character on the map during. I don't know if it's necessarily over powered though. I mean in COD4 if someone called chopper and you didn't have cover you were pretty much dead...now player competency is a factor so overall there must be a decrease in kills.

    heat-tracking, auto-lock-on, wall-penetration.

that's some pretty fucked up shit right there.

at the same time it's a nice idea and i think it's pretty fun looking.

it does seem strange to me that chopper/harrier kills count towards your killstreak, that was never the case before (people actually used to call a chopper, get killed, and THEN the kills would count - which is at the least, undesirable), now it really does seem like you just have to get that first call-in and you're pretty much set.

but holy fuck does that look fucking incredible or what? fuck.

the sounds alone are incredible, the screaming and shouting, the weapon sounds, the atmosphere..

this looks utterly amazing, the graphics are awesome as well.

Refusing to help Steam spread by selling a game that requires Steamworks is closing the barn door after horse escaped, and all they're accomplishing is hurting themselves by giving Steam the sale of the game itself as well as the burden of supporting it on its network. Releasing a game on Steam has by far the lowest technical requirements of the publisher because the only actual requirement for Steam integration into a product is auto-updating support, basically, while all the other DRM networks except GOG have a limited list of available DRM schemes you MUST use, for example SecuROM on Gamersgate and Direct2Drive- Steam will let you publish a game completely without DRM, just with Steamworks auto-updating and nothing else changed from the basic videogame. If the other Digital Distro platforms want to actually compete with Steam, they need to start being better in some aspect or targeting adifferent market, and right now the only thing any of them (except GOG) can hold over Valve's head is not needing their client to be running to play, which means nothing to 99% of PC gamers who are already using Steam, talking with their friends and joining groups in Steam Community, adding all their non-steam stuff to their steam games list anyway, etc.

Of course, this whole discussion is ignoring the crowd who doesn't even know any of these services exist and play their online games on Popcap and Big Fish, but that's another issue

god damn that's still too long.

Looks great. I had tons of fun on BF2 but they have yet to bring that magic with the other titles they put out after it.

I never played the MP in BF:BC - purely because it was console only - but the single player was a masterpiece for what it was trying to do, not too serious, not too over the top, but just beautiful gameplay. If they can carry that style over into the MP then they definately have a winner.

I enjoyed BF2 but god damn did it have some fuck-annoying features.

Personally I think the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 was the last great pinnacle

I also saw MW2 MP played this morning (some stores are selling it early - russian stores, surprisingly), and in two games there was one host migration and 1 bout of high latency/lag. Also got to see the FoV.

It dealt with the host migration much as it did in the videos, albeit it was a little slower (6 or 7 seconds - which if it happened enough I'd rage like fuck at, but it didn't seem to happen too often).

The lag was interesting to see, there was about 3 seconds of god awful lag, and then boom, finished. It seems to recover really well from it, but who knows, only time will tell.

It would be interesting to read more about their netcode system and how they quickly overcome latency problems.

The FoV didn't seem bad at all - I saw the chateu (sp) and the brooklyn-style street map and in neither of those did it feel like your view was ever terribly obstructed.

Admittedly I was watching it on a 40inch hdtv, and sitting about a metre away, but it didn't feel anywhere near as bad as OFP2.

I am slowly getting pulled back into the hype for MW2 MP (never had any doubts about the SP ;D).

Also, it's still a case of "Grenade of Grenade: Grenade Grenade 2". And then some noob-tubes thrown in as well.

UK (possibly EU) people should have a look at shopto.net, you'll get it early and it'll be cheaper than anywhere else. Plus if MW2 requires Steam then a physical copy shouldn't matter - it'll probably just sync.

This is plain rumour obviously but the writing made me think:

Have they never played counter strike? Or natural selection? Or any mp game ever?

How do you make this conclusion from the article you quoted from? It suggests that they have learnt from players exploiting the party talk in MW1 and fixed this issue in MW2 by blocking it. Of course this will upset some people who like this feature but then again since when do you care about the console version?

(I am doing catch up on this thread so excuse the post spamming to follow)

If they are so worried about people figuring out the location of who killed them.. then why is there a Killcam that blatantly shows you exactly where you were killed from. This is n;t quake or unreal - 10 bucks says he is still there when you respawn.

this whole release and build up has been a fucking farce.

i wonder if this will end up damaging IW or the MW brand.

Man, what is wrong with buying games? Do people not want good games to be made or something?

it wasn't the pirates that leaked the disc. most likely some minimum wage scrub in a pressing plant who walked off with a copy of the disc. get some better security or maybe pay people reasonable wages and they wouldn't do it, who knows.

also, after all the buttfucking the pc game got recently i wouldn't be surprised if people will pirate it for the SP campaign. because multiplayer is dead.
