people used to go ape-shit about it

but again if all they are using is the animations then i can understand (i have no idea what this is all about so, meh) because finding animators to work on modern engine-based mods is _hard_ - finding them for a corpse of a game is bound to be pretty much impossible.

Hello, your favourite idiot here again - so I am going to learn maya - had a play around with it today and it feels very comfortable, I like it more than I like max already but anyway: I need some good basic tutorials, VTM's or written - stuff that runs over where they keys are - how to chamfer, extrude, (etc) - basically all the stuff I know how to do in max but don't know where to click to make it happen in maya.

Things like uv mapping and bringing materials into the app, lighting and so on.

Also rendering to textures, baking shadow maps and normal maps.

I'm going to grab the 3dbuzz tut's (always found them useful when starting a new program) but I want stuff that focuses on game art creation more heavily.

If anyone can offer up some good sites or places to start I'd be very grateful - I may even fellate you.

    Thanks in advance <3

I agree - that's what I love about mapcore: it's very free of the usual internet bullshit; but now wtf is happening lately, don't want to point fingers but this and the TF2 thread have been ruined by the same kinds of people :S

I export the highest layer from mudbox to an obj, import it into max and bake to normal from there.

Yea I read the interview with one of the guys (a day or two after his 'release') and man, if ever there was a company that was totally fucked from day one: it's them.

That Brad chap seems like a complete tool as well.

Money is the basis to ANY industry. You're insane if you think that it'll work better WITHOUT money. What would be the reason for anyone to make anything that requires this kind of effort? Of course they're going to make a product that they can sell. Sure there will be marketing and some decisions will be made that will in the end make a game perhaps less enjoyable for some, maybe even most, of the players, but will cause a few more units to be sold, but shit, thats life. Stop bitching. This is driving me fucking insane right now. TF2 sucks because its not close enough to TFC, SC2 sucks because its TOO close to SC1. What the hell do you want!? No franchises, no sequels, just 100% unique games all the time? Should the industry have just stopped after Warcraft 1 was created, and decided as a whole that this genre is completed to a satisfactory degree?! Well, we could do 3D, but thats just a gimmick to sell more. We could add classes, change scenarios, but thats just a gimmick.

The fact is, theres a ton of RTS games. They're all basically the same thing, you create a small militaristic civilization, theres some form of currency and resources, and using your civilization you create and upgrade different units. You use these units to conquer the enemy. Sure, if you suck it down enough, they're all the same exact thing. Shit, all FPS's are is you're some guy who has to click on enemies while they're in the center of the screen. Hell why not suck it completely down to ALL computer games are a series of pushing buttons and moving a mouse! Every game is the same thign! GASP!

amen, stfu @ whiners, it's getting very old, very fast

hah yeah very true - but I can imagine the amount of characters on screen has got to factor into how awe-inspiring the gfx are.

Am I the only one who isn't in the slightest bit impressed with those videos?

Some nice graphic effects in places but the gameplay looks about as boring as you can get.

The most entertaining aspect of those videos was the Koreans making noises, especially the teleporting robots, man I laughed so hard I almost split my jeans.
