yeah not bad, I hope you enjoy the Sg - they aren't the best quality quitars in my experience (even the high end ones), and they suffer from a lack of tone through certain amps but punk is punk eh, nobody gives a shit what it sounds like a slong as it's dirty ![]()

It looks like a map, none of the architecture really ties together in a coherent way. Everything also looks very plain and empty. I am not seeing any hint of the massive size you talk about, it loosk like a very average map.
I also find some of the model detail to be badly placed, most ntably the de_nuke blue beams on top of what looks like the balcony of a residential flat.
If it is supposed to be under construction (as is hinted at with the concrete bags and the giant box) then sel the idea more, half built walls - unapinted bricks where the building is taking place, fenced off area (using the 'large stone' supported temporary fences) around the building site. Concrete stain decals on the floor, a wheelbarrow, some shovels etc etc.
Personally I would like to see the references you used for this level. Admittidly looking back on some of Valve's design for HL2 it can be very very basic at times, but it always seems plausable and believable; with this level nothing seems to stand out and say "I am a real place".
Nice effort, perhaps you could work on something else and focus on realism from the start
(if you wanrt to work on realistic stuff, of course) -
you make it sound like we care wat orther names he goes by or even care enough to find out. He should have made it clear or signed up with the name he uses etc.
nice looking level design (pics look a bit sharpened!) - I would download these if they weren't just the same old HL gameplay, that's the only thing that bugs me about this series - it's probably the only hl2 custom SP 'mod' that is worth playing, which says a lot, but it's just not really interesting enough to grab me by the balls.
After all that whining though, congrats on getting out another episode

Oh give him a break, the first shot looks very promising actually...like you spent a lot of time and effort to replicate what you see from your window. I never got this far/good with rebuilding our house
Is the performance still good?yeah I suppose there's no harm in supporting him, it's just that he released his map (to world-wide acclaim) a few months ago (or was it longer?). And even then it didn't look bad, it was quite good. I'll be honest though, this is not looking any better, the outside doesn't feel right (I think it's the tree models that make it feel off) and if the fog is intended to help performance I can think of other ways of doing it without cutting view distance down - all that the fog is doing is culling what the draw distance should be anyway - it's not that open a map.
Not the nicest thing I could have said but it's honest, and that's what counts, blind honesty in the face of the rules.
Advice #47:
Give up, learn from this level and make another, better, more impressive level. If you keep picking at this current level you will feel obliged to change more and more and eventually it won't be the same map.
Or if you're just looking for comments on how fantastic you are:
Wow looks wizzicked may'n, you gots da s to da k to da ills

was that tacky or literally the worst thing to come out of Japan since octopus porn?
-
inappropriate fog and poor texture alignment?
-
i don't understand all the crying, here and at IGN - seems perfectly descriptive to me and I can't think of another game that is doing that kind of thing?
or is everyone running to be the first to jump the gun and slate something that's slightly different to all the shit we've been seeing for the last 7 or 8 years?
god I hate originality. it's so.. original. /sarcasm
@ taylor: don't be -ing silly ;D

Maybe you were sarcastic but if not, yes it can and you if anyone should know that

I wasn't sarcastic, those screenshots look amazing! Excellent artwork, especially on the 360!
what exactly is amazing about the artwork? It's just boring bland tiling textures on pretty bland standard geometry. It's the lighting and athmosphere that makes it look pretty ok. But it can be ALOT better! I mean insurgency looks way better than this imo.
INS is also built for the PC and horribly optimised in areas, not to mention INS is an MP game with small maps.

a very good point is raised there - it may not have uber-bloom (which obviously makes a next gen game...), but you're using very limited resources on a 360, whether the engine they are using (anyone know what it is?) streams content or not I don't know, but you've hardly got a lot of texture memory to spend, then think about all the characters, the vehicles etc etc, it soon goes on a 360.
Ep2 is a PC game with tweaks for the PC (if you've got the memory to run it) and it's silly to expect a PC game to look like a console game and vice versa.

really nice peris, love the lighting

AH WONDERFUL, I FEEL SPECIAL NOW
OBVIOUSLY I EAGERLY AWAIT ALL UPDATES AND IMAGES
SO EAGER AM I THAT I DIDN'T REALISE I HAD CAPSLOCK ON

awful tbh, the music makes it a horrible experience, why did you even put that in there?
I couldn't see any artwork, the music was shit, so I left.
I'll be waiting for round two.

The textures used in some areas don't work well with the simple geometry.
The lighting is the biggest let-down, it's not 'bad', it's 'very bad'. Too contrasted in areas, too saturated, the same light props used throughout several very different locations. Not enough variation in a single scene - just looks liek one colour light placed around until you can see things - try and focus more on the lighting or just show fullbright screens, because as it is the lighting is dragging down the impression of the level.
Survival horror, right? Fill in areas with black, don't let the player see into certain places - tone down the lights here and there to make it look like an ominous place - use some flickering lights, some fire etc. If you are surviving some kind of horror, where are the hints that any horror has taken place? Blood trails, dead bodies, broken glass, burning things, disarray etc - use the lighting to build up the tension and let the player know something is about to happen.
or you could just get rid of those fugly red lights and point_spotlights. That'd go a long way to making it look less banal.

I think EA are getting better, they are still too lax on some areas but overall - they're moving away form the ''britney spears' of the game world'' titles.
-
tits.
I didn't finish the first SH game, too much running around in the fog and the dark - annoying puzzles pulled straight from resident evil and done in a more over-the-top way.
No offence to you guys that like the game, I just thought it was shit.

they need a job then
