  • Recruiting process vs salary

    • April 8, 2014 at 6:16 PM

We all agree that companys "encourage" not talking about salary across the board? ... right ?

Is there anyone thinking that this is "NOT" because of a 100% economical reason ?

Because let me tell you: all the touchy/feely/tip-toe/social-awkwardness arguments I have heard so far do not even factor into this decision/behavior on the companys part. it is in fact as simple as this:

Does everbody knowing about each others salary cost us more or less at the end of each month ?

    More ?!

Okay than we don't want people to know!

What surprises me quite a lot is that people aren't willing to talk about what salary they earn. This rule really only benefits the company. We have to rely on the gamasutra surveys to find out what people are earning and no one ever has any idea what they're worth at their company.

this pisses me of to no end aswell.

we had this exact same discussion in my team as well (one day while no management people were around) and i made the argument that this can only lead to people getting exploited so i broken the silence and told everyone what i earn and step by step everyone revealed what they made and turns out one of the art guys who had been at the company the longest was only making 1/3 of what everyone else was getting.

so if anyone cares i make 4.400 euros a month of which about 2.600 actually end up on my bank account every month.

EDIT: and i live in hamburg which is considered expansive by german standards but is dirt cheap to a lot of/all other euopean/US cites were i have ever hung out.

-i have so far always been paid/reimbursed for flight tickets and hotel stays so why is flying out to an interview such a big deal?

if salary is so important to you/someone just bring it up as soon as possible... like before the art test.

got to the first bonfire in sen's fortress with zero deaths. get on my level.

just out of interest, what weapons/classes were you guys playing on your first playthrough of DS1?

pyromancer with axe and shield (until my coworkers told me how to get the drake sword)

than i noobed around with that until i understood how the whole weapon/skill/scaling thing worked and i made a conscious effort to skill myself up to a point where the katanas were better than the drake sword

and than two handed katana till the end.

i tried the crystal halibard for a while and loved it but didn't realize that it cant be repaired D: so it was a short fling

Everyone favors people with experience ... "shipped game experience" specifically.

I hope that is not the issue because that is not an easily fixable :/

I am huge puyo fan but i dont see myself playing this it doesn't feel juicy at all:

    -missing sound

    -movement is jerky

-need to hold down for way too long to make em drop

    -gfx lack personality.

i want a proper competitive online puyo game though !

    possible issues:

-no customer pain: people only open their wallet if they have a problem and the thing you offer 100% perfectly/instantly kills that problem. but nobody is lacking character artists the internet bursting out of all seams with character artists. technical artists and animators on the other hand are always rare.

-middle of the road approach: the characters are probably not high quality enough (visual) to be used for the main character or npcs he/she directly interacts with but also not general/versatile/optimized enough to populate a large crowd in the background.

-wrong place to advertise. we can all make our own artwork so we don't need to buy anything. i cant think of a place to sell these assets either though because:

-assets need to fit the games art style and every game is unique and different therefor every self respecting game gets all of its art assets made from scratch specifically for that game. this holds true for both indies and triple a projects.

... many times have i thought about making a large asset library for turbo squid but i just cant visualize who i would be targeting with that. just to test i made a set of facades :

    http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/modu…s-3d-fbx/441767

and i have sold a total of 2 copies in the last 4 years (one was a test purchase from a friend to see how the payment interface works)

it will prioritize the fake wall when you press x !

was wondering the same thing because sometimes the messages are actually a couple of meters ahead of the wall and sometimes even before the corner that leads to the fake wall

... i guess the idea is that people will RATE up the first msg that gave em the hint ^^

@vilhem this is an addition not a change there are "also" fake walls that you need to slash with your sword
