Will update that picture with one of the actual radar once I've sorted out why its not being lit in the most recent compile

    Taken on board peoples suggestions:

    • [*:1sd57t3u]Shortened the brief resume to the basic important stuff, added LinkedIn link
[*:1sd57t3u]Ditched Epicenter from front page (may work on this level to add extra detail later)
[*:1sd57t3u]Replaced all Foxhole shots with less crappy ones
[*:1sd57t3u]Ditched a load of 3D work, basically left animations and the better 3d models from final project, will add props when I make them!

Have a looksies again and see what you think, may need to clear your cache in FF.

The most interesting piece you have on there to me, the ww2 trench thing, and the screens blow. Isn't there anyway of getting better ones? Difficult to make much out in them.Blunt honest mode:

Epicenter screenshots are very below par in comparison to the others you have.

The ww2 trench thing? Probably a bad sign as I'm not sure what you're on about! The Vickers MG in the 3D section? As for the screens blowing, all of them? How would you improve them, different focus or just better quality (AA/AF etc)

I'm thinking of ditching the Epicenter stuff, maybe Density.

I would rework the resume too. No recruiter is going to care one iota what GCSE scores you got, or what your hobbies are. If you can do the job, you'll get an interview and if these things come up you can mention them. There is, to me, generally too much text on your pages. I still think the site is easy to navigate so that's a plus, but as others said some of the work you display simply doesn't have its place there. On a side note, if you're looking for work at Ubisoft let me know

Again, will put it on a diet. The resume side is a relic from when we had to do a site for our degree ("this is what you need for getting a job!!!!"...taught by incompetents who have no understanding of the games industry) so will chop it down to the vital stats and get rid of the bumf.

I tried something a bit different than just all pictures for this version, trying to explain my thought process/involvement with each map but that may be a bit overkill in retrospect.

Thanks for the crits so far, keep em rolling!

It's happening a lot you say? Switch the card and see if the problems persist.

Well, not a lot. I've disregarded GTA4 as that is a terrible port, but Mirrors Edge has been the first new major one. Crysis could have been the demo and Burnout Paradise doesnt work without AA enabled. Source/UT3/CoH and all other games work fine.

Not sure I've got any other GPU's lying around, gave the 7900GS to the woman.

I apologise in advanced for the bulk LinkedIn invites I just sent out

Thanks for the recommendation, will return it shortly.

I see what you mean about ropey 3D stuff, will probably cut down some of the older static stuff as it is garbage compared to the rest. The other issue in my head is the Foxhole stuff, whilst it is my only "professional" stuff it also looks like pants

Weird how the few weeks I got paid for doing that turned out to be the most profitable of my life so far

did you manage to fix the crysis stuff? perhaps its some hardware fault on your end?

Yeah I did fix that stuff for Crysis, not sure why it made any difference but it did. I am thinking it could be a hardware error as this is happening an awful lot recently. Just hard to come up with concrete proof...

    Hi all,

Thought I'd get my WIP portfolio site up on here for some feedback, looking for general crits etc as intending to start looking for work opportunities by the end of the year, aiming for something hopefully at the start of 2010. So hopefully you guys can help get my portfolio up to scratch.

The one thing I'm concerned with is the lack of recent stuff you can actually download and play with due to it all being non public stuff for Ham and Jam. Ideally we had hoped to have released by now and this wouldn't have been a problem but well, stuff happens!

Worth starting a new small TF2 project for something fresh and current to have on there?

Rapidly becoming less impressed with PC games these days. Never used to be so damn hard to you know, play the game you just bought without spending hours trying to get it to work!

I sense buying a console soon...

Anyway, Mirrors Edge. It all looks pretty dandy except for the fact all the character models are invisible. Just floating guns and red glows in a body shape over bad guys. Kind of makes it hard to play....

    Have:

    • Reinstalled game twice
      Updated drivers
      Reverted drivers
      Updated Physx
      Patched Game
Tried every combo of settings in nVidia control panel
      Cursed
Rebooted computer after each setting change
      Changed resoloution
Tried every combo of ingame settings

So kinda frustrated, but glad I only paid £3 something for it rather than RRP.

Seeing as everyone rant and raves about it.

The real reason for getting these as I got them both for £7.48 from the EA site. Can't pick them up that cheap second hand yet!

I was waiting for it to get to £5 Currently £10 for the original or £20 with Warhead. God knows what it would be from a shop, I'm sure I saw it at £34.99 the other week still lol

Blast from the past for anyone who comes across this in the future, I have solved it.

In the nVidia control panel I had to have the "Adjust image settings with preview" set to "Use my preference emphasing: Performance" rather than Let the 3D app decide, use the Advanced 3D settings or Preference as Peformance/Balanced.

Just thought I'd let people know as its bloody annoying searching for solutions and you come across a forum post with your problem with no solution!

Over the course of my degree we had 3 animation tutors. The first one was a great guy, tons of experience, worked on a few commerical games and was generally amazing. His work was beyond anything we could do and for that we respected him, his advice was always consistent and sensible.

At the start of the degree his friend and sadly the course leader got fired for bullying another member of staff on the course and that set a lot of things in motion as the ex course leader was a highly respected guy and the 'victim' became course leader. He was totally inept and we were getting feedback for modules, after the next modules hand in date where the module we handed in was supposed to be a progression of an earlier one. Hard to progress when you get feedback after the deadline!

Tutor A eventually left after he made sure we had got enough done for our final projects and were self sufficient. He now works for Bizarre games doing Project Gotham stuff. Cue Tutor B, the victim. Totally inept, hadn't used 3D software for years and was totally off the mark. Any questions we had he couldn't answer and referred us to the help files and Tutor A's video lessons. He got someone else in within a month as we had all threatened to leave (and without students, no funding. No funding no course, no course no job) and on the scene came Tutor C, an ex student.

He was ok, but his level wasn't much higher than what we we're getting too and it was hard to talk to him as he had barely any experience outside of the degree.

So in short, I think you really need a lot of experience in the given field to teach stuff competently. That experience could come from being on the course for years and picking it up or industry experience but I reckon you need a good 5+ years of it to get to a good standard unfortunately.

    Quote from 2d-chris

    Group teaching is always fail.

QFT. It's ok for explaining the basics of stuff briefly on a projector etc, but once the first hand goes up of "can you show that again?" it's game over.
