Picked up SS2 just now, time to play what some of my colleagues made when I wasn't even a gamer...

  • What are you playing now?

Just finished Fez today, pretty fun although the structure of the game leaves something to be desired early on, with so little direction you end up having to backtrack quite a bit to pick every cube up.

Started Tomb Raider, loving the execution so far. Very varied gameplay ideas too, and a tight experience to boot. Perfect balance achieved.

I loathed FF8 with a passion. Played it at 20, whereas I played FF7 at age 17. By 20, the angsty teenager mob that FF8 is infested with really pissed me off. In comparison, FF7 was so much more of an instant classic with its story that could enchant 5 year olds to 99 year olds. Just purely magical.

Minos, yeah the game holds up, absolutely. Of course the graphics department is going to make your eyes squint a bit, but gameplay is still among the very best in the genre, story is the all-time environmental protection classic, characters are (mostly) deep and interesting, the entire game suffers no slow part.

Yeah I'm gonna hold off on getting that, a) because the price is kinda steep, and b) because just reading through the achievements made me relive one of 5 or 6 complete walkthroughs I've played of FF7 over the years. I just know it by heart at this point.

The Mapcore scene in Montreal was once pretty large. Dark, Deceiver, myself, and a few others were around. I also worked with people who said they were readers of Mapcore even though they never joined.

I'd certainly like to see one posted, but it won't be from me given the level artists are much better suited for the task. I talked to a few of them, specifically those who worked on Emporia with me, and they haven't updated their portfolio yet. Maybe next year at GDC?

Sorry I've been slacking with the updates on this thread. Pogo, you may want to edit your signature, it still says Unknown Worlds.

Furthermore (as I agree with every point made so far), a study last year showed that Metacritic score only ever impacts sales when that score is 90+. And there again, you could make the argument that the score only reflects a universally acclaimed title that sells so well precisely because it's universally acclaimed and NOT because suddenly your neighbor and his goldfish are browsing Metacritic (Chicken and egg argument).

When the future of your game/studio hangs in the balance of Metacritic (never happened to me, but I know it has elsewhere); something is seriously fucked up.

We should really wake up and smell the ashes now, with the state of the industry as a whole. There is no 100% fail safe recipe for determining what will sell. End of story.

The engine you use to create a scene matters not, your artistic skills are everything (composition, lighting, modeling, texturing, atmosphere, etc)

    Quote from Warby

Furyo everyone is talking about this number lock ?! where exactly is that ? is that something optional i dont think i saw that ?!

It's the combination for the locked elevator that leads from Emporia into Downtown Emporia. Pay attention to the scene where Songbird comes through the window. Liz also enters the combination ahead of the player getting to the elevator once the scene is over.
