Yeah not so excited by the MP. My MP games are on the PC, and consist of Valve games only. Meaning, I don't play online much at all these days. I'll probably get the game this summer at some point, if only to play the SP.

For you canucks, dell has it on sale for 40 bucks...with the wheel.

Well I've tried to get back in Psychonauts tonight, and nope it looks like I'm giving up around the end. The difficulty curve kicks right in around there, and I can't be arsed to find out what sort of strange level design theory makes me have to go up on a roof when the camera for one thing, and the seemingly invisible ways to reach said rooftop clearly won't let me.
We've had these discussions about BGE before and why it didn't sell, and I can't help but think of Psychonauts as a copy cat example. It's a brilliant concept with tons of absolutely superb ideas every where you go, kick ass dialogs, humor and story, but for all these great gems, it can't be marketed properly. What do you think a correct sales pitch at GameStop would be for Psychonauts? Same as for BGE, you could take 10 minutes of your time babbling words to try and describe it and wouldn't manage to sell it.
Anyway, Yahtzee sums it up nicely and he has a way with words I can't possibly dream of ever having so have a look for yourselves
Meanwhile I'm back on Rock Band, this time learning the drums. Playing medium so far, can't say it gets tough until Green Grass and High Tides. -
So I'm done with Assassin's Creed, and it really isn't half as bad as some reviews said it was gameplay wise. I suspect it does get rough if you're just rushing through it trying to beat it in time for your review, but I really took the time to explore the cities and complete all the missions, so played it for over 25 hours. Some of the bugs were down right painfully stupid to have let slip by (and so obvious the testers have spotted them for sure) and certain design if not technical decisions like having to listen to cut scenes were also detrimental to the replay value (being able to load the game directly in the kingdom for instance would have been helpful when going for flags/templars)

Their whole "choose your preferred controller" thing is BS though, as it's already been confirmed some of the moves won't be feasible on the gamepads. Oh and that wheel is priced at 15 USD, which is a total ripoff for a piece of plastic.

The idea as I understood it on PA's website was to create a platform independant distribution system, meaning with the same thing you could send the data to a console or a PC. Steam doesn't offer that.
If it's not what this is in the end, then yeah it kinda looks like a steam look alike

Having beaten Rock Band Multiplayer with my sister last week (visiting Montreal all the same), I've now turned my attention to Assassin's Creed, just to see what many of my current colleagues were up to before I joined them. And also to see how long I'd play it before feeling the repetitiveness I keep hearing about. I actually was pleased by the entry missions and city, then things do get repetitive. I'm sure I'll still beat the game 100% though.

One could make the argument that once ads in game become the norm, the financial pressure will lead studios to make less fantasy games. Or turn them into purely children entertainment, where ads will still be seen as something to fight against.
Fight games can sport ads in their arenas, racing games can have that a lot more than they already do, sports games are ads magnets, and any other game in a realistic modern era environment is fair game. Doesn't leave us with much. I'm just surprised we haven't seen a ton more in GTA so far.
-
I found it to be a very good way of implementing ads, something which other entertainment medias still have to learn most of the time. I personally find this Philips example to be fitting, if only slightly exaggerated in size. Kinda the exact opposite of many of the latest James Bond movies (just to point the finger at a genre really).

Nice Daniel, a good friend of mine just left Ubi to join their crew as senior level artist. Let me know if I can help you out with the move or anything

Even more better, he's playing my first game

Well there has to be those who are getting screwed by this, and I'm one of those. I'm still sending back money to France as I need to pay back my business school loan until 2011, and that's costing me a leg each time. I just send a large amount once every few months, but I sure hope the rate has gone down again (or up depending on your side of the fence) next time I do it.
And yeah that's CAD, not USD, but it's really just about the same thing right now. I heard that Canada's economy was not heading in recession unlike the US, so we may be better off here.

That certainly sounds extremely cool. From the paper pitch you just gave us, it's easy to be more excited about this than many pro projects of late. For one thing, I could never get into the games produced on CryEngine or CE2 because the basic fault in my mind is to combine open world and FPS together. There was just some inherent broken mechanic VS what I enjoyed so much in other FPS games.
With the whole Ubisoft ordeal over the original IP and how it's been butchered to hell, and seen as Far Cry 2 is yes you guessed it, another shooter, I'm dying to see what this engine can do for other genres. an RPG of sorts would be absolutely phenomenal for one thing.

Guys, leave old matters to rest please. Jean Paul's comments were in another thread, long gone by now, and have only been brought up to stir up some more troubles. This map is great, its release thread doesn't need to be spoiled by petty comments.
-
Yeah I'll be thinking of a new way to present things, meanwhile this is still manageable. As far as updates are concerned, that's reasonable right now. We don't have dozens of updates per week.

FF8 was to me as bad as FF7 was a glorious piece of art. Really entirely disappointed by it.
Alright, I have no idea how I''ve managed to wait this long to finally pick Psychonauts on Steam and give it a go.
So right now, I'm playing Psychonauts. There are a few things that irk me, but it's a masterpiece of story telling (Erik Wolpaw again shines) and humor. Exquisitely twisted level design, that really is sometimes begging for some more straight forward design.

LinkedIn is the leading business oriented social networking site. In contrary to Facebook where you can find whatever you may think of, LinkedIn's purpose is to provide professional networks, in a career and business oriented way.
Reflecting on Mapcore's purpose to bring quality feedback and help to modders and game developers all over the world, we've just added a LinkedIn group for all Mapcorians. Many of us already have LinkedIn accounts, and use the site as an online resume of sorts, with recommendations.
What does having a group add?
Belonging to the group will give you a Mapcore logo in your linkedin profile. Our goal is to help making it easier for recruiters to look for like minded designers, or ask for your own help/recommendation on someone else before they hire them. It will also bring additional exposure to the site, and potentially increase the number of job offers posted on our website from recruiters.
What is the purpose of the group?
Anyone belonging to the group agrees to extend the kinda help we provide on the website to anyone else in the group. Remember that any member of the group may contact you through LinkedIn once you share the same group.
How do I join this group?
You'll first need to sign in at linkedin.com. Once you have done that and are signed in, simply click on the following link and type mapcore in the right hand field.
If you experience any difficulty in seeing the Mapcore group in the search results, please let us know
http://www.linkedin.com/groupsDirectory
Who may join Mapcore's group
Any contributing member of Mapcore will be welcomed with open arms. Industry recruiters may also join the group, as long as they plan on posting their job offers on our forums.
5 months after this LinkedIn group was created, we currently have over 80 members ranging from students and enthusiasts to industry recruiters including EA and Ubisoft. You will also find artists and designers from over 35 studios in the world. Apply today and expand your network.
Thanks for all your help in making this group successful,
The Mapcore Team

So Zacker, what's the deal with IO as of now, who is still there, when did you leave etc?
-
If you're doing anything for a company right now, then yeah. kinda like Dux and Turbosquid.

Added your previous jobs guys, and renamed the section so all previous jobs could be posted, and not just other studios not represented in the current roster
