Am I the only one that doesn't consider HL2 a FPS? It's a FPA/AG to me (made that up right now) First Person Action/Adventure Game. A FPShooter has to have its main gameplay be about shooting people. Quake III Arena is the very best example to me, but it's precisely because HL2 gives you awesome story telling and immersion that it just falls outside of that category. When you see Episode I has an achievement for finishing the game firing a single bullet, that just says something about the classification as FPS. These days any game that offers a FP view is called FPS, and it's just detrimental.

Gears of War was a lot of fun playing Coop, the first encounter with the berserker certainly ranks way up there in the very best gaming experiences I've had in the past 10 years. It's just not a game I can see myself playing solo or online. And why anyone would expect the second opus to look a lot better than the first is beyond me. The first doesn't look dated, players have grown used to the first game's visual style so making them go to the same universe is a given. As a sequel, this game will deliver on all aspects. More action, more features, more enemies, more weapons, and increased cinematics like quality of gameplay.

You can't buy properties in GTAIV?

No and that's one of my biggest gripes with the game. That and no garage on your safehouses, but a parking spot, making any car you'd leave there stay while you sleep and not regenerate to a brand new one. The major drawback is it's just a matter of luck now to get the Infernus, as you'll have to go looking for one now, and there is no sure way of getting one too.

im not about to replay the game to change my choices, the outcomes really had no substantial effect. i beat it last night at i think 36 hours and now im running around killing pigeons. there really needs to be a way to let you know which ones are left, if i get 199 and cant get the last im going to be pretty pissed. ive found that all the money in the game is useless, i have like 64k and all i can spend it on is clothes and guns? i could play for another 200 hours and not spend the rest. i want to buy mansions, helicopters and cars. lastly, what is the point of the like and respect percentages? i dont see them really doing anything.

I hear you on the pigeons deal, even if you can take a screenshot of IGN/Google's map locations, and process them one by one so you don't miss one out.

I'm doing the races now, and as far as likeness and respectability is concerned, respect doesn't get you anything and likeness gets you an achievement. Which is just painful to get.

Ok so I beat the game tonight as well, so here I join the spoiler convo:

Shot playboy X instead of Dwayne, then never saw Dwayne after that, told him to fuck off as I wanted to go on with the storyline. One of the things I haven't unlocked yet is the ability to place bombs in a car, though I'm pretty sure Jacob gives that to you (not that I want to know, I'll have to find out myself). Can't say that I regretted killing Playboy as he really got on my nerves for some reason, then again I never used the safehouse after that, and thought the money could have been a better choice.

On the subject of who to shoot, anyone went for Francis over Gerry? I killed Gerry, thinking he was a lost soul worth putting his misery to an end, and that I'd rather not piss the police even more. Got the ability to call off the police, and when I wanted to try it, I realized this doesn't work within missions which really felt like an entirely useless choice. Seen as the storyline ends rather badly for the Mcreary family, I thought I should have killed Francis instead. I'm gonna play it again and find out what happens if I reverse all my choices.

Psycho that's all sugar coating though. And again CoD4 wasn't the first one to do it. Gears of War has a swaying camera when you run too.

The difference here is that these moves ARE the game play, they're the promise of this game. Take those away in CoD4 and you're still in a great game, they're tricks to sell the atmosphere even better, but they're absolutely not essential to gameplay.

This is my most anticipated game this year, hands down. I really love the artistic direction, and I certainly hope the controls are the main emphasis in their design or it'll suck big time.

Here is what I wrote in another forum, that pretty much sums the game up as far as I'm concerned:

Well the hype certainly played a role in this game getting a 10, but there are many many frustrating moments for me that make me switch off the console...for at least 1 hour before I get back to it.

Some very obvious things are missing from the new combat system, most noticeably the fact that even if I have half the LC police forces on my tail and have a single target to kill as a mission, that target should absolutely always take priority when I aim, not the cops. I don't care if I die, but I can't stand having to try and complete missions more than once.

Reviews say the last 10 missions suddenly take a huge increase in difficulty over the rest, and if that's the case I'm really NOT looking forward to getting there.

Story line so far is a gem, and the missions are varied, but the few glitches that make you back track your sorry ass through police fire, because an NPC thought it was cool to get stuck along some ..!...!...!...!.ing wall, and this combat system that will irritate you to the point of throwing your controller through your 17th floor window makes this an automatic 9/10 for me.

With that said, there are also some very dodgy animations (running down stairs for instance) and some glitches and a lot of popping up. No crash or show stoppers. The only thing I'm missing from San Andreas is the bike. Man that was my favorite ride in that game

Or how you may want to replace every word "Comics" by "video games" and you're seemingly reading some of today's media articles.

So I picked up one of the last two copies tonight at the place I preordered it, and I've played about 4 hours. Brilliant from every perspective, except for some awkward animations still (running down stairs for instance). Got busted once not doing the mission "right" if there is such a thing. Seen as MS is offering us a 1 month free subscription to XBL, I may have to try the multi sooner or later.

That review just got me all psyched up about the game. I don't feel I should stress how unusual this is for me, yet it strikes me as the only review I've read that makes me feel that way about a game.
