Yes...do you have...questions...?
Recruitment managers don't know shit about shit when it comes to what you'd be best suited for. They make money off placing you in a position so they're going to tell you whatever they need to.
You should try to apply directly to the companies you're interested in because the game developers themselves actually know what skills are required for the job. Companies will never ever just work through a recruiter -- they'll post the job on Gamasutra and Creativeheads as well.
That looks freakin' amazing
Not a single criticism on it. Can't wait for the release. ![]()
Looks good BUT I really don't like those triangular wedges with the corrugated texture connecting the scaffolding at parts. Those look really bad and I would suggest taking them out. In fact, removing that corrugated texture from the scene altogether would probably help too. It doesn't really add anything.
Quote from VoodooBensheei must say for leveldesign is that workflow really bad. for really good designed brushwork it takes three times longer than making same in gtkr or hammer editor.
Not true. Having used GTKRadiant and Hammer for years myself, WorldEdit is just as fast. It has slight workflow differences in terms of how you actually create world geometry, but it's mostly similar to the UED method.
If anyone is interested in getting into it, I do use it in a professional capacity so if you have questions just post them in this thread or make a new thread and I'd be glad to help out. I'd love to see what talented mapcore people could do with the FEAR engine. ![]()
And yes it is entirely data driven as buddy said in the first post so it is very very easy to get custom content into it. GDBEdit and StringEdit are very easy to use.
Quote from EviLTaxialthough I appreciate that you've thought of the solution that HDR "is fucking up the effectiveness of the normal map", I would also appreciate if you would read my post entirely:
meanwhile, I did another test. turning off the bloom effect only (with "mat_hdr_level 0") while HDR was still on, I saw that the bloom effect itself does not alternate the normal maps in any way. they still look very weak as in the gif.
of course, the bloom effect does overlay materials and if it is strong enough it even overlays materials completely but with HDR, all normal maps are getting very weak, no matter if their face is hit by direct light or not, no matter if they have a bloom effect or not.
No, I read your whole post and I stand by my answer. HDR as it's implemented in Source is mostly just an overbrightening effect. Even if bloom is off the HDR effect will still wash out the map a little bit. The effect isn't limited to areas with strong light sources alone.
I think the simple answer is that normal maps just look more defined in more darkly lit areas. The HDR/bloom/overbrightness is fucking up the effectiveness of the normal map, plain and simple.
Condemned (PC) - not bad, the combat kinda sucks and the pacing is a little too slow but the atmosphere is great and the story is somewhat compelling so far so I will probably keep playing. There's a really annoying sound bug though where footsteps and weapon sounds will make ambient sounds pause ![]()
Dystopia (HL2 Mod) - I was a huge huge fan of Dystopia when it first came out with just dys_vaccine. It was a lot of fun then because there was a small dedicated following and the map had a good amount of depth. But new maps were slow to trickle forth and the mod kinda died for a bit it seems so I lost interest.
I started playing again with the release of version 1 and it's just as fun as I remember and now all the servers are full and there are new maps yay! ![]()
Also, I think I saw FMPONE in a game and I recognized his name but I thought it was from SA...now I remember where I really know you from ![]()
QuoteAlbatros":2dxdpfpr]Hey guys
,What's good about a map when the gameplay doesn't fit? It's not all about them visuals. Same goes for the 20 MB limit. Most servers won't even load up a map crossing that line, and I need players to play this map so I can find out how it plays. If I was able to make it a 60, 70 MB .bsp, I could definately make it a shiny beast, but that's what my next project is going to run for
.

You can have good gameplay and good visuals you know ![]()
I agree with hessi, the staircase shows that you have a bit more work to do polishing the map with some better brushwork. I don't know how long you've been doing level design but designing stairs like that is something you usually learn not to do after a while. You do seem very talented though and you definitely have an eye for overall composition of your levels, but I think you might need a bit more practice with the technical aspect of it.
I'd offer to help clean up the brushwork for you because I really like the vibe of the map, but I don't have DoD:S. You're almost there but now you need to smooth out the rough edges on some of the brushwork and then you'll be ready for your final. ![]()
Congrats Teddy!! ![]()
Way to go Lee! Glad this is getting some solid hype. Looks awesome ![]()
Looks Valve/Turtle Rock quality -- let me know too when you're testing it ![]()
Quote from voodoochopstiksHey, voodoochopstiks here (note only one C
) from Grin! Hello to everyone! I've been lurking for a while and I am now making my appearance from the barnacles on the dark underbelly of the leviathan we know as The Mapcore, which swims and roams the depths, corals and abysses of the seven seas of Leveldesign! My first name is Daniel and my last name is Platt, feel free to add the two names to the post.
Hipshot's name is Jochum Skoglund and Oski's is Oskar Törnros, I'm sure they won't mind being added, a good list never hurts.
Get fucked. Just kidding! Hi voodoo ![]()
It looks great! It also looks a lot like the mental hospital from Session 9 which you can kinda make out towards the end of this clip http://youtube.com/watch?v=aQL2LyFbjIE
Don't watch it if you plan on seeing the movie because this is the last minute or so, but it's a really cool movie ![]()

Nice theme so far, but those little bits of geometry I highlighted look really really bad. I would suggest getting rid of them or trying something else there maybe because they look completely out of place and wrong.
1. Make more money
2. Save that money
3. Get a car.
4. Get better at modeling and/or programming
5. I would say get a girlfriend but I'd vastly prefer a handful of one night stands ![]()
