    As promised in the texture thread (though I'm not sure how many have looked) The new textures I made for the mansion, ingame. I think the look of them fit well and the main hall actually looks a lot better. I'll be working on a new wooden floor, base wood and carpets to also use there to make it look even more fresh. Maybe a new ceiling, the light looks fine however. For the ceiling I am not completely sure what to have, grey squares like I have there or some wooden squares to blend with the wood trim?

    I'm not showing much since I'd like to keep things as a surprise and who knows if any members from the Duke community are looking at these shots.

    Some textures that I'll be using for my Mansion map. Nothing too special, over the top or detailed but they should work well in the map. I was in need for some better textures to use, and still got more to work on. The picture in the middle of the fifth is still WIP, I'll work on it soon though.

    NOTE: I had to tweak the textures quite a bit since I got the scale, and proportions wrong. However I've fixed all that and will show an updated ingame shot in the WIP thread soon...

    I've only played two.

    FFX - Currently taking Yuna to see Semour in some snowy area but I find the game rather boring. Haven't touched it since.

    FF3 (Snes) - Now this is fun, a bit stuck at the moment and haven't played in a while but so far it's my favorite.

    I still want to pick up FF7 cheap somewhere.

    I agree about the metal strips. They suddenly cut off at a wierd angle and have an odd thickness which looks very odd. I think they'd look quite nice (imo) if they cut off flat vertically, had equal thickness with some small light texture which imits some hot-orange lighting. Nothing big, just a small tone to add a little bit of atmosphere there on the ceiling, since those bigger lights aren't creating enough feeling. Ofcourse it's WIP though, and you're probably already aware of it.

    Been practising to code for Duke3D. This is so I don't mess up with anything in my Mansion level, and there's a few things I still wish to have in there which isn't too hard to do. The following screenshot shows a custom key, health and inventory menu (basic graphics) with a working selecting box that moves and eventually be able to use specific items. Ofcourse in my mansion there'll be small graphics which will look a lot better. Custom health hud was just for practise. And the map isn't another project, just a test map where I also tried out some structure and texture mixing ideas out. Hipshot's skybox also look great there.

    Quakis, the "sliding" bug you're talking about, could you give me some more info on that? The reason is, I experience it myself since I upgraded (!) my vid card late in the development process. None of the testers encountered any problems, though, so I thought it was a problem on my end. What kind of engine update did you say introduced this bug? I'd like to include some info about that in the upcoming FAQs on our website.

    It was that Half Life Engine update back in October. It happens to all goldsource games where the keyboard and mouse would stick and "lag" But I searched the steam forums and a temp-fix is to set the hl.exe processes to low priority.

    Either way I completed the mod and will hopefully review it on TAW sometime soon.

    Played quite a bit but stopped because the keyboard and mouse getting stuck (because of that HL engine update) got worse and so damn annoying. Might send them an email which they'll just put aside... -_-

    Love the Colossi statue, map looks beautiful. Very well done man, impressive stuff. Although since Steam is down and I dont have CSS installed Im not sure when I will take a tour around the map myself.

    I'm guessing there might be several GMOD comics using this map as a location for their stories because of its quality. It's a guess but they usually come true

  • XSI / Blender => MD3?

    I agree with Hydeph here, especially the displacement map point. This is probably one major reason I find a majority of HL1 stuff a lot more appealing to look at than Source maps with blocky, square empty rooms with props scattered everywhere...

    Forget that, Blender is pretty much similar and I've gotten used to the UV Mapprer now. But now i need to get some MD3 exporter to work. The one I found is called md3-plagman and when I convert the model to MD3 it says an error caused and check console... where's the console?

  • XSI / Blender => MD3?

    Previously, before my hard drive died after summer I used XSI Mod Tool to create models then convert them to MD3 using Milkshape for use in my Duke3D projects. However I dont have the latter no more and don't feel like using it anymore (trial won't last long / not worth paying for / hate crack sites...)

    So ofcourse I need to find other means to convert my models to an MD3 format, yet it doesn't seem there's a plugin for XSI Mod Tool to do so. However if there is, please link me! But I do know (and have) Blender has a plugin to convert to this format.

    However, since I don't have either installed I'm wondering if XSI can save into a format Blender can open so I can convert to MD3. The reason I ask is because I love the interface, controls and UV Mapping area of XSI over any other program I have used. More comfortable to make stuff in.

    However, if there isn't a way then I'll have to learn to use Blender. It's installed at my school for some reason and I took a gander into it. I can make a mesh, move points and all the stuff I need to create objects, however I hate the way to do things in it and I really dislike the UV mapping area of it.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Tidy, simple and straight to the point, I love it. Also love the colour theme you have going there as well, makes the screenshots easy for the eye. Good work so far

    Old engines still rock, and glad to see the HL1 engine still being developed on. Goes to show what can be done without the latest tech.

    Looking forward to it's release too, but this keyboard and mouse issue the last HL engine update caused (less than two months ago) will make it less enjoyable to play...

    @ OnboardError - Looks great, however a small nag. I can understand broken pavement tiles but I don't understand why a few would just be missing. It's as if people have took them out for whatever reason, looks wierd.

    Insta's correct.

    It's not that I don't want to move to another engine, I just don't see why I need to right now. I'm not exactly building a portfolio anyway. I do however have a few projects on mind for newer games but right now I want to get my Duke3D project ideas completed first. I find it a lot more fun to fake effects, and try out new techniques to do something in Duke3D.

    After this project, I have two others on mind for Duke3D I wish to complete first - One of them is a 32 bit idea, the other is my System Episode that I posted months back.
