I don't know why others enter but for me it's a great exercise in rapid prototyping. Most of my coding projects these days are month-long affairs that can get pretty tedious and will most likely involve a lot of refactoring. It's a nice change of pace to quickly make something and get to dabble in a lot of different tasks like art, coding and sound. If I get frustrated in one area, I can work on the other. I guess the main point is it's fun On that note, if you take a look at the winner of last years competition, it's actually a pretty fun game. A easy to get into action RTS. The games are not necessarily all crap. Granted a large portion probably are...

Also there's no reason you can't refine it after if you feel inclined to do so.

Ah cool, oh and I forgot to write, instead of 48 hours, why not a full week, heh. Anyway, yeah I could see it help train in quick prototyping for sure, never thought of it that way. I guess it also gives people reasons to actually do something. That said, is why I asked, hehe

Good job Spicy for such a short time frame,

    but,

I don't get these contests. Why waste peoples time to complete something useless in such a short time to prove nothing and make crap? A week would at least give some extra value. Maybenot? heh

huh both those movies are from the same year as the abyss ? so strange how holy wood makes the same movies in parallel all the time ... i would have figured these 2 were directly derivative of the abyss if i hadnt checked the release dates ...

Yeah exactly, I didn't realize until I started digging for them again. 1989 and 1990 are filled with cool sci-fi movies + all other types of great genre movies. I miss the 80's and 90's for movies "/

Leviathan (1989) - I really enjoyed this one. It has a great cast of actors set designs and the environments are amazing. The creature in the movie reminds me a bit of the alien from 'The Thing'.

DeepStar Six (1989) - This is another underwater sci/fi thriller similar to Leviathan but not half as good. It also has really cool set design and environments.

There are a bunch more I cannot find atm.

One I am looking for in particular is similar to the movie Virus(1998) in the way that the aliens use mechanical items and human body parts to construct themselves, but after an attack on earth (in some corridor thing) they go to the moon and discover old ruins and what not, forget the rest. It was a cool sci-fi movie though. If anyone may know the name, please let me know.

I was home for a few days, not long enough to actually complete my ongoing project, but long enough to toy around with the cryengine, so I decided to create a few scenes based off comic books I like. Here's one:[Blocked Image: http://www.clement-melendez.com/temp/03ref.png]

and now Crysis2... All the same bullshit... I enjoyed Crysis and Warhead but this one is looking the best crap Cytek ever made! Crytek copying the other console shooter made me laughing out loud as hell! The combat looks by far to close compared to the Crysis original Mp gameplay! Seriously Crytek !?

Fortunately we can counting on Portal2, Deux Ex 3, rAge and lots of indies fps such as the ball, NS2, ...

    I love Seldoons English!

unfortunately I cant play the multiplayer since it does not seem there are more then 4 guys and his dog playing it I just sat waiting for 20 minutes again tonight. I really want to try it out, but man, it really suffers from not having dedicated servers.

I rented it (promising to myself I'll buy it the first time it gets a steam sale for the multiplayer). Beat it in four hours. Those were mostly a fun four hours, except for the BS deaths whenever a guy you didn't see gets within ten feet of you and instakills you, knocking back to the last checkpoint that could be as far as three or four minutes back, maybe even before an in-engine cutscene. Ending was very cool, but I feel like it needed more time to revel in that coolness- after the final bit of gameplay you get like four seconds of cutscene and then credits. Not even an ending voice mail or something along those lines. Or even the

behind the credits. Not a big deal, but I would've appreciated it.

Yeah I agree, but I still think some more gameplay should have been added on the

plane, or like you said at least a cutscene. Stupid camera guy had to stay in China. LOL The airport was like the easiest part of the game besides the beginning. I think they could have done something better. I was expecting something more over the top then mw2's airport scene. The ending was so brief, I said out loud; "thats it"???
