  • Maya, Max or XSI ???

    i mostly agree to defrag:

max is powerfull, but it has some strange and complex stuff in it, you can use much easier in maya. for example uv mapping. max needs a modifier to store uv information. maya doesnt need such a thing. it saves uv information directly on each (face-)vertex. you can modify your mesh after uv mapping without fucking up your uv map (what i remeber of my MAX times years before. maybe that has changed)

XSI is pretty cool too. i spent a look on it and it has a feature that allows maya users to run it under a "maya preset" which means: same shortcuts, same camera movement, all like maya.

    my personal fav hierarchy:

    Maya > XSI > Max

you can surely get great results with all packages, but if you want to work on source games: take maya! pralls exporter allows you an export withing 1 click. everything gets exported. textures, qc file, lod, folder structure. thats something the max exporter doesnt have! i wrote a tutorial on that:

Very nice looking and something I would very much like to learn how to do. Out of interest, which 3D package do you model in?

Maya, but my technique is applicable in all 3d packages.

    oversharped!!

instead of sharpening add detail to it. maybe som grass between the bricks. or gravel. you can do it better than this!

no this is my own 88 model. the anvil model is crappy. too less geometry detail.

awesome model looks like a fun uv job too

autounwrap is pretty cool in maya while you are working with boxy lowpoly meshes. snapping uv borders isnt a that big deal. then rescale everything. overall this uv map would require 1-1,5 hours

God damnit hessi, your just a regular jack of all trades, eh? Can map, texture, model, skin... what can you not do? By the way, awesome model.

i cant programm 3d games. maybe within my studies i will get experience with that. i have ideas on maya plugins too, but no skill to realise them

well and creating animations from scratch isnt one of my skills or i didnt try that hard in the past

maybe some people will remember that i started a DOD map project weeks ago. I had a german 88 flak cannon unfinished on my computer. now i finished the LOD 0 modelling. total of 10.600 polygons. i will texture it as soon as possible. i want to try some different techniques on it.

click the image to view a turntableanimation of the model!

well then you actually did not playtest it there are a few of camping / sniping spots. long street next to the church and on the roofs. you can camp next to the market hall on those stairs or near the fountain at the CT ladder and watch out for ruhsing Ts from the side.
