biggest flaw: near the sides of the display then pen flickers all around which is kind of annoying when you have important controls there. depending on your calibration you wont be able to open a hidden start menu (windows) or dock (mac os x).

when it comes to the other stuff: the display is okay. it seems to be a little dark, but not too bad. the colors match my macbook pro displays colors really well. the pen works really good. feels as working on an intuos3 with a display you have a pivot point unter the display which is cool for rotating the display when it is flat on your desk. if you don't like this behavior you can put some rubber stamps underneath it BUT you can do this only once. this is a big fail imo. imo the cable from the converterbox to the actual device is pretty long. if you put it on your desk you will have too much wire on your desk. the pen that comes with the cintiq is basically an intuos3 standard pen. it comes with 3 extra default nibs, 1 spring nib and 1 stroke nib. also there seems to be a really small delay in drawing. usually you dont notice it, but if you wave around a scrollbar in firefox for example after a while you will see that it is delayed. probably i should make a video of that.

overall: the device is cool especially when you dont want to spend 2 grands while still having a cintiq. there are some technical flaws that you an live with or bypass with the calibration. i dont regret buying it since it is damn awesome to directly see what you are painting.

i give it a 4 of 5 points. if there will be an improved second generation you should probably get one of those. at the moment there is nothing confirmed about such a thing.

HDR is the problem. you have to insert a special { } tag (which i dont know right now since it is cryptic and long) to detect HDR mode in the VMT and use a stronger "$envmaptint" command

that's what HDR does. it overbrights regions that are light intense. atm you are looking in a dark region and every tiny lightspot will be very bright due to the simulation of a human eye. if you want to bypass this effect even while being in HDR mode, you can define a region in your VMT file to lower the envmap intensity when in DX9 HDR mode. i don't have the code right in front of me but there exist several files in source engine games that use these commands.

    i hope this helped

ehm what do you need one for?

It sure looks good on desk.

to relax and evolve some drawing skills? you sound like "you dont deserve it because you suck at 2d". probably using smilies would have helped.

@HP: if you are interested i would sell my "old" intuos 3 A4 tablet. of course it is used, but generally it works fine. contact me if you are interested.

are you still using ogre for rendering? in that case you would have to open source it due to GPL, no? :S i am always confused with all those different licenses...

regarding being dumped into the spam box: when i first applied for internships i received an answer with the topic: "RE: ***SPAM*** Bewerbung"

actually thinking about it, i wouldn't like to work in a company that uses a spam filter that degrades every application to spam, because that's what "Bewerbung" means.
