Well, it did the job! If anyone has a map ready for some thorough "To The Max" bug finding, they now know to send it your way ![]()

You tried tiledshot 6 128? I remember the screens coming out nice, whereas the normal tiledshot had a grid like pattern across it.
-
Looks excellent! Has a really fresh feel to it. Can see from all the clean lines and textures it has been made with gameplay in mind. Looking forward to it.

Could be beneficial for people with new maps. Focus hard on the gameplay, do a rough art pass and submit. The feedback given will be most useful.

I would like to see a new Day of Defeat. In fact, it wouldn't even need to be called Day of Defeat, or set in the World War era. Just as long as I was able to play Avalanche, Anzio, Donner and Flash with a new sheen.
-
cashed - Agree! Although I am worried about the displacement limit which I think is easy to hit if all walls are displaced

PogoP - At the moment, I don't have any blends on the walls, they are normal bsp. The Hammer shot is a test blend to see what it might look like. But to add the blends, the walls would need to be displaced. Like how de_mirage is almost all displacements.

Did a bit of work on readability, trying to make the map cleaner.

Older one.

Will add a blend of some sort so that the plaster textures are not just one colour. Older test blend.

Yeah, good progress so far. Looks nice and clean

Might find this useful (assuming you want to change the sky texture - the current one one adds some nice detail). The CSGO skies are near the middle of the page.
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_List
To change the sky, go to Map > Map Properties, and paste in the name of the one you want. So sky_cs15_daylight01_hdr for example, would simply require you to paste sky_cs15_daylight01_hdr into the field.

One thing you could do is find a picture from the internet of a building or a scene - nothing too fancy (an industrual setting for example), and go about replicating that as best you can. Use as many different techniques as possible to do so. Brushes - this will be the main thing you will be using, textures, meshes, overlays, displacements etc.
The reason I say this is because you would probably find it more useful to learn about the technical aspects of the editor than anything else. Layout work will detract from that, even if it is just an fy map. It will also give you something to aim for, which always helps me when learning something.
Keep the remit of what you are looking to produce narrow so that you are near completion after just a few days. If you progress quickly on this, then you could push out some more by adding a 3d skybox, some nice lighting/post process, and maybe even optimise the scene.
By the end, you should have a firm understanding of a lot of what it takes to put a level together.
I don't really know what tutorials are out there, so there could well be a good series that takes you through all this anyway!

Nice progress! Lots of potential for a unique looking map.
I actually thought of this type of thing when seeing the screens. Back walls as windows to give a sense of openness. Might get too busy though.

"I'm wondering, what's your thought about "de_france" ? This name sounds very weird and awkward to me, but that's maybe because I'm french .."
Because Paris is the most pertinent place name for the map, any other geographical description might sound a little odd. People might wonder why it is named de_france for example, and not de_paris.
I looked briefly on the Google machine. City and state names are not trademarked in the US since they are common geographical terms. I would assume it is the same in other countries?

Probably best to investigate a bit further though if you are planning on calling it de_paris!
-
de_paree might get you round that. Sounds naff though. de_capital_of_france and de_city_of_love. Sounds even worse!
I think we need more images to properly help

-
Agree with the simple more place specific names like de_france or de_paris. A more generic name (de_inferno, de_mirage etc) perhaps de_boulevard could work.

Yeah, looks awesome.
And now, give us the url to download it please !!!

I am on tenterhooks here! I want to run around in Paris and get owned by bots.

Yeah, lighting is too dark. Will change that eventually. Texture wise, I will definitely at least modify some Italy ones to get brighter and more varied walls.
-
Don't be shy with the images! Interested to see where it goes.
Working on a couple of maps. This one started as a map in Venice, but has now become a generic Italian town
. First passing it atm by placing "modular" buildings everywhere which I will alter/change as time goes on. Need to break up all the lines on the next pass, make it less gamey, and lose as much of the cs_italy look as possible. First pic is of T spawn, second pic is part of the left route, and the third pic is a re-purposed modular building. The negative space at the ends of the map is where the 3d sky will start.[Blocked Image: http://www.skybex.com/home/de_map_01.jpg][Blocked Image: http://www.skybex.com/home/de_map_02.jpg][Blocked Image: http://www.skybex.com/home/de_map_03.jpg]

Really fitting theme for the map. I can see it dressed already. How close will you stick to the original layout?

Congrats! Who got a skin featured?
Both the new maps available to play right now for a limited time in Operation Bravo .

Edit: Took a look at the maps, and both are visually excellent.
